LCD and Plasma Bargains

Howzit Guys, Went through to HI-FI corp yesterday, the LED/LCD Hisense 40" tv looked great playing HD content but in SD leaves much to be desired. Also checked the Sony 40EX400 and that looked better, but I turned the corner only to find a 50" and 42" Samsung plasma side by side which captured my attention. Now im more confused than when I started yesterday.
Apparently Hisense parts are imported from china and then assembled here in SA(Midrand).
The search continues....

Exactly, you'll find a lot of these stores playing HD stuff to hoodwink customers into thinking they're good. Most LCDs/plasmas will always shine when it comes to HD stuff, but come short with SD stuff. Branded LCDs are better for SD stuff generally. Better yet, just get a plasma and you have the best of both worlds.

Take the 50" PS50C430 if your budget allows. It's the "daddy" of the PS42C430 we spoke about. Very well trusted plasma, with quite a few owners on these forums who've never been happier.

I have a acoustic research which sadly doesn't have any means of connecting to my TV :(

Acoustic Research - especially pre-2000 - were very good speaekers. I think they've changed hands since then - but back in the 80's the stero set to have was a NAD 3020 amp and AR speakers ;)

The same company that bought AR and messed them up are now buying Klipsch

Ouch :(

I've never heard Klipsch myself - but I've 'heard' only good things.

Apparantly Rockford Fosgate did something similar - but not to the same extent - when they bought out MBQuart. I think quite a few models are now produced in China

Hmm I bought mine about 2 years ago. Its actually a iPod geared setup. Came with a ipod connector etc.

Do you have Acoustic Research speakers?

Yip, a sub and two mids.

That actually wood be good .... Postman - do you want to go ahead ?

Be my guest - mine will be "Budget Surround Sound/Home Theatre Bargains".

Budget is relative .... ;)

So we've relaxed on the LCD vs plasma debate ... we're going to be arguing budget constraints on surround sound ;)

Two different TV's .... the Series 5 is FullHD, the series 4 is HD Ready ....

That said, I have heard a lot of complaints about the Series 5, had an A550 myself when they came out and could not live with the bad motion processing, so took it back. I thought back then that Samsung was just rushing to get a FullHD plasma to market and it wasn't quite ready.

The Series 4 is a very good TV, don't let the HD Ready part put you off.
