LCD and Plasma Bargains

I've only seen HD-ready plasmas at around 7k - where do you get your price on Full HD?

Oh, they go for R9,000 in 50".

But it really depends on the content being played as to whether you need FHD or not? The most popular TVs - 42" and 50" HD plasmas - get rated better by some people than equivalently priced FHD LCDs at playing FHD content! :eek:

/facepalm

Sorry, end of a long day...

Having said which, 50" is just too much for smaller rooms. And in my case, my wife just doesn't want such a monster in the lounge :D

It's going to be a stretch to sell her on 40-42" as it is.

Edit: btw, what's happened to the 37" format? No-one seems to have these anymore?

Yeah suppose 40" is replacing 37"- very few these days.

For 2.5-3m 42" or 50 inch is great. :D

Full HD?

42" = HD
50" = HD/FHD

Doubt your Dad needs FHD... Anyway...

PS42C430 42" = R4,499
PS50C430 50" = R6,499
PS50C550 50" FHD = R9,499

These are the older models (still bloody good). New range is out but are about 10% - 15% more expensive on average although they do offer a few better features.

I bought a 37' Full HD LCD samsung like 2 weeks ago :P

use it as a computer screen ! upgraded from my 32' LG ! all the 40" wanted a 1.5k premium... which i couldn't justify

Which Samsung? LA37C530 or LA37C550?

What does the sticker on the right side say under "Version..."? Axxx, Cxxx, Sxxx? (2 alpha followed by 2 numerical)

How is it for PC use?

Somewhat related... Just picked up my new 32" LCD... Yes LCD... Obviously not for SD TV/sport. :p Gonna be for PC. I am very lucky to have gotten the SQ02 panel - which is made my Samsung, which is the best. There are 2 other panels they use - one from Autronics (Axxx) or something which is in the middle, and then from Chinnei (Cxxx) or something which is the worst panel.

Amazing how these LCDs all differ because Samsung uses different panel manufacturers. They call it panel lottery.

Will be hooked up to a AMD HD6850 Toxic via HDMI. Hope it's decent for PC and games. Wish me luck. Will review soon and obviously compare to my 42" plasma. ;)

good luck!
also, how is it to sit so close to such a big screen?? I looked at the 27" iMac a while ago and it kinda feels like the screen is gonna swallow you up..! Isn't that type of size too much to take in at the viewing distance?

Lol, I'm a little nervous but I think I will get used to it. I have 90cm - 1m viewing distance which is supposedly ideal for 32". :)

Anyone know if the higher end Samsung Plasma screens are available yet? Like 51"D6500 and 51"D7000 ?

Not AFAIK... Ooh, you got some bucks to play with?

Hehe :)

I have spoken to a few retialers, and get the same story... They say there is only going to be a limited range of Samsung Plasma screens in SA compared to overseas. They read off the official pricelist for 2011, and there are only 7 new plasma models available in total (covering all sizes!)

So for the 51", the D550 is the only full HD model available. the D6500, D7000 and D8000 won't be available :(

Also, in 59", only the D550.

The 64" only comes in D8000.

The rest are the HD Ready screens in the 43" and 51" size (with and without 3D).

Pity, but yeah, question is... Do you need more than the FHD D550... ;)

It's said these new TVs come close to Pioneer KURO/Panasonic Viera blacks - and the Sammies are entry level! :eek:
