I don't mean to clutter this thread, just a few quick pics for those interested. This is as is out the box, haven't touched any settings. Resolution is out (over sampling or something, will disable when I fiddle). Excuse the slight desk clutter and desk that needs a new paint job! :D

I will start a new thread soon for a review.

Doubt your Dad needs FHD... Anyway...

PS42C430 42" = R4,499
PS50C430 50" = R6,499
PS50C550 50" FHD = R9,499

These are the older models (still bloody good). New range is out but are about 10% - 15% more expensive on average although they do offer a few better features.

Is it just me or are these pics tiny...?
 
Can't really tell of any lag in Black Ops. And I'm not even on Game mode (reduces input lag). Have started calibrating, picture fitting and looking much better.

Next test is Starcraft 2...

You need to clean up your desk and maybe wall-mount them bad boys? The bigger boy seems to be sitting on the edgde of that table.

Will do. The 24" BenQ on the left is mounted on an Aavara AR210 arm. It was originally done so because the stock stand wasn't tall enough.

Pics were taken as I switched on, have since moved right speaker to the left to make space for the 32" properly on the desk. It's angled more towards me now and I am really enjoying it after having fiddled with the settings! Text is surprisingly sharp - Sharpness setting on 0 is best, strangely enough. I've measured viewing distance at ±1m. I've tested a Starcraft 2 replay and there was no motion lag and I'm still not using Game mode for reduced input lag. I've played 1080p Avatar and from up close the FHD effect is amazing. Only niggle so far is some shades of red text bleeding and being washed out - a common problem in LCD TVs as PC LCDs but will hopefully sort it out after calibration. Not that bad. :)

Ag, Dolby would be so proud.

Went to game today to buy a 26" (or was it 24" :erm:) Samsung LCD for R2200, that was out of stock. Saw a Sony of similar size and price, also out of stock. Since I went there with my mom, she was surprised how the price of tv's had gone down especially on which had bought some months ago, had to tell her that the prices decreased dramatically from what I remember reading here on MyBB. She then saw a 32" Samsung 3 series for R3300 and said she will chip in to buy that one for my bedroom at home and I can take the 22" inch currently there and use that for my apartment near varsity. Thanks mom :).

The only thing bad I can say about the 3 series is that the media player doesn't seem to be fully functional as you get with 4 & 5 series plus the USB is at the back, so if you mount it like me and don't have nimble fingers you'd might struggle plugging in USB devices. But since it's in my bedroom I will just be using my laptop to watch stuff of from via HDMI.

Sharpness setting should almost ALWAYS be set to as low as possible, or disabled completely. This is because transformations (post processing by the TV) on, e.g. text, will necessarily result in poorer quality.

In any case, if it's for image or video sharpness, I'd wager your PC will handle the sharpening a lot better.
 
Hey sn3rd. Got the screen crystal clear now and colours seem accurate too. Besides a bit of my own fiddling, the biggest improvement was renaming the HDMI/DVI port to DVI PC. Screen really feels like a PC monitor now and I can't notice any input lag. Will give more details when I do a review as I said above. I'm 100% satisfied. :)

Of course, the test now will be SD TV and sport... :p :D
