I was going to say I'm a service provider but thought that would get some chirps - I see I get them anyway! ;-) I should have kept y'all thinking I was a dude!! :-)

I'm actually serious. I believe in trade offs if any are viable. By the way you never responded when I asked you why my LCD has no issues with sport and SD on DSTV ? I have read most of the discussions and posts and you seem quite adamant tha LCD will give a kak vewing experience when watching sport and other SD broadcasts by DSTV. I am not nitpicking here but that is not my experience and I was wondering why?

What makes you think I thought you weren't being serious?

When did you ask me this? Unfortunately you misunderstand my position. Seeing as you really want to debate this: What LCD do you have, which DSTV decoder, and what sports are you watching?

Other settings that help for me on a slightly older LA40C530 are;

Sharpness to 0 (zero)

Other Picture Options settings;

Size = Screen Fit
MPEG Noise Filter = Auto (leave it on to help with artifcating on some of the low-grade DSTV SD channels)
Film Mode = Auto2

Other Advanced Settings;

Everything to Off or 0 (zero)
Colour Space to Native

OK feedback is that these setting definitely made the pictures look better overall - thanks.
I DO still have the "fringe" effect though, and its there on DVDs and an 720p file that I tried as well... :-(

Not sure, as mentioned dont have the exact same set. May try also turn off MPEG Noise Filter?

My other settings I left out;

Mode = Movie
Backlight=9
Contrast=83
Brightness=44
Colour=43
Tint=G53/R47

All Eco stuff Off

Also what is your DVD player configured to output over HDMI?

DVD output set at 1080P. I also get the same effect on USB stick direct into screen.
I think I turned off the noise filter (pretty much turned off everything I could find!). My other settings fairly similar except my contrast is higher; I can try turning that down. Also you seem to prefer a touch of green and less red in your picture - I left my tint equal!

strange no such issues on mine with these settings

I am not looking for a debate per se. All I am saying is that I have a LCD and I have none of the issues that you claim I should have. I have a 5 yr old Mecer 37" HD Ready LCD. A 7 year old 110 DSTV decoder (failing fast I might add) I watch ALL sports with a lot of rugby, soccer and F1. I watch a lot of HiDef movies via my media player in various different formats. I have no issues with ghosting or colours etc. etc.

Even though your Mecer is a tad old, it may be a higher spec model which is why even now it's still pretty decent? how much did you pay for it back then?

Maybe this is a bad example but I bought a cheapish 24" Samsung 1080p LCD and it was horrible, abominable viewing angles and the blacks were so bad they were browns, this was last year btw, not that long ago at all.

Yep, but that is a PC screen, right - not a TV.

I got it for free from Mustek. It was in the market then for about R5999 if I am not mistaken. I seriously doubt though that LCD technology went backwards during last 4 years? And I doubt that Mecer made a better LCD 5 years ago than Samsung 1 year ago? I just found the info by the way:

Oh I think you do have the issues, you just either don't notice them (perhaps due to viewing distance, eyesight) or they just don't bother you enough.

"What you don't know won't hurt you" comes to mind. ;)

Rugby, soccer and F1 are slow sports compared to tennis and golf. How are they? :D

HD stuff is 99% of the time good on any HD (>720p) screen. Never an issue there.

What is it about "colours" you are talking about?

Wonder what the panel type is? Seems to be an LG though - so either IPS or VA-based.
