Yup have been there and seen them. Thats when I started looking into Viera. But SA just always gets the blunt end of the stick. Im not willing to setlle for hand-me-down Panasonics when I know theres better Panasonics out there...

Newworldmenlyn in Pretoria also stock them.

But he can't go 51".

I've suggested 43" in the interim until something better at that size arrives. It'll be between 5 Series and 6 Series LCD (closer to 6 Series) for what he wants the TV for (mainly DSTV), at half the price.

Still he wants quality. PS43 is great value for money but that's where it ends.

So I see HiFi corp is selling a 55" 120Hz Hisense LED for R10999. Seems like a pretty good deal but the fact that it's HiSense just bothers me. Would anyone here shell out R11K for something like this? Specs wise it's looks okay'ish but the contrast ratio (40000:1) seems rather low compared to the LG and Sammy TV's. I just can't help thinking that if I'm gonna spend R11K on TV I may just as well spend R2K - R3K more and get a 46" Sammy 200Hz LED.

I already know that PostmanPot is gonna instead recommend that 51" Sammy Plasma (D550 or something) which can be had for around R10K. :p

Unfortunately a glossy Plasma screen is not an option for me as I don't want to have to close the curtains at 10 AM in the morning if I want to watch some telly.

It's a dynamic contrast it could be 4 million to 1 for all intensive purposes ;-) also Hisense isn't a backwater little TV maker they are regarded quite highly from what I've seen online.

I hear you. If the room is bright, big windows etc. then it's a no go. Really depends on the room though.

God im still undecided but think I'm gonna go for Samsung PS43D490. Tafelberg meubels has it for R6499... Now concerning the glasses... They so expensive... Where do you buy them and which brand?

Yeah who would ever have thought that buying a new TV would become such a complicated and drawn-out process. I mean 5 or 6 years ago when I bought my LG 72cm flatron it was like walk into shop; decide between Samung; LG and Sony; pay for TV; walk out of shop. End of story.

How things have changed...

Yes, that is true... Big screen TVs make issues / flaws much more noticeable :)

Is it worth R1,500 extra for 3D? :o

Decide and test both TVs.

Samsung have a glasses/3D movie kit (Shrek series or something?) for about R600. San't rememebr if it was from Samsung Shop, Makro or Dion Wired. Think Makro.

Definitely harder for the average Joe.

But it's really quite simple IMO:

Your needs
Your room
Budget

You guys talk such kak! All this FHD talk is nonsense!

FHD is really bad quality, HDReady is much better! The best quality of all is still 480i on a CRT!

Don't let the sales people mislead you. FHD is no good! HDReady may be better but it is not the way forward, don't let PP mislead you either. Don't settle for resolution, it sucks! For for SD, it is the only way!

No. I'm serious! Its weekend and I'm gonna give anything away that has a resolution higher than pal. My phone, pc monitor, tv, everything. I guess work won't be too happy as it also includes my work laptop but who cares. Sd rules. I already have set pc and xbox to sd and it rules. Thing is my life has to much detail.

Can I have some?

You need to think about things!

I remember back in the good old days when I had just upgraded my computer to a Windows 95 machine. I had a nice 17" CRT monitor to go with it. What a beast, let me tell you. It was quite an upgrade with its 1024*768 resolution. Today you can go to the shops and buy yourself one of these cool, fancy but expensive Plasmas. They even have the same resolution as my old monitor so I am sure I'd get along well with one. Problem is, I already have a TV. I made the mistake of buying a resolutionised LCD. Loads of little pixies on that screen, too many. If you are still reading at this point you must be really bored. I come back here and read and read. And if there is one thing I have learned from reading is that pixels are bad! You get the best quality, and value, if you save the pixies! There are these awesome TVs recommended on here and these pixie saver have indeed the same number of pixels as my 16 year old monitor! If anything that just shows you that your picture quality gets better if you increase screen size by keeping pixels constant! Now I truly believe that it gets even better if you decrease the pixels even further! That's why I say no to HD!

I urge you, I beg you! Let us take this to our employers, to parliament! Lets create a nation with less pixel. Lets create the SDU, the SD union, and go on strike until our employers reduce pixels by 18% or more! Stand up for what you believe!
