True. Unfortunately the reduction in size is not so minor.
But I will agree with you if the OP has a brightly-lit room that has not been designed for HT.

For anyone interested, stumbled onto some (I think) cheap Samsung 3D glasses at House & Home (Fourways). They are the base SSG-3100 ones (bluetooth for 2011 D model TVs) for R349.
I've never had much interest in 3D, but since the price seemed like a steal (have seen them going for up to R750), I got a pair just to mess around. Downloaded some 3D demo files off the net, and they work pretty well with my UA46D6000 TV.

R8,999 - R9,999 would be a very good price.

Only functional diffs I can see between Samsung's 2011 3D TVs is, the D6000/D6200 are missing the 2D->3D (pseudo) conversion, but the D6400 & above LEDs do have this feature (along with the D490 & above plasmas).
Thanks but I am in Durban. Got a quote of R 9799 from Simplex in Dbn Central yesterday. I want to go demo the new Panasonic TH-P50U30 plasma first before I make a decision. This will be available next week at Mod n Sound. I bought my HT system from them so I always get good service and prices from them.
i'm also interested now that you have mentioned the Panasonic, do you have any idea on the prices on the Panasonic?

Prices were listed on their specials page a few weeks ago, can't remember what the price was. Perhaps around R18k.
I'm in Durban. Problem with us Durban people is most AV stores keep mass marketed brands - Samsung, Sony, LG, etc. It's rare to see a store that keeps other big brands like Panasonic around here.
I was quoted R 12 999 by Mod n Sound in Umhlanga and R14 999 by Audio Architex in Hillcrest.
Most of the large stores dont stock Panasonic TVs. Its only the specialist AV stores that sell them although Govan Mani has started selling the Panasonic LCDs and they have the TH-P50X30A plasma for R 6 999 but this is a HD Ready model and does not have many other features.
Planning to get a 46" LED TV in the next month or so, was looking at the Samsung D7000 series which seems to average around +R18k but now I'm thinking it is overkill. Also had a look at the LG 47LW6510 which looks quite nice. Also noticed the Sony Bravia KDL-46EX720 but haven't looked at it in detail.
I know these TV's come with a billion features but the main one I'm looking at is good 2D (don't care about 3D). Is it a waste to look at these TV's for just 2D and should I rather be looking at a lower price point?

Was in a similar position recently, and evaluated almost everything avaliable in the R10-20K range. From my perspective, if FHD 2D image quality is the overriding criteria, then its definately a case of diminishing returns.
I eventually bought on the low end of the spectrum, a Samsung 46D6000. Sure the 46D6600 and 46D7000 are progressively better spec'd/featured TVs, but on 2D image quality alone, I could not justify the large price differentials.

Checked some US online stores and the equivalen US Model was $2442 (found it for $2000 a month ago) - about 20K at todays exchange rate and 16K at the exchange rate a month ago.
I am actuall seriously considering importing this tv. I am sure import charges and tax cannot be 19K. Anyone have any experience doing this?
