Guys, what's your opinion on the Samsung on special at Game from tomorrow in Cape Town for R3999? Can't post the link here (from my phone) but it is a full HD (LED I think) 40" but with only 1xHDMI and 1xUSB? Have a look at the RSA pamflets at www.game.co.za. Can't see a model number though...

Is there anything better for that price?

I guess not, that's the price of a 32 inch full HD Led when on sale.

Uh-oh sounds like another diluted modem from Samsung. Meaning it could lack extra HDMI ports, USB media player, etc.

Try get PS51D450. Usually R5,999 - R6,500.

Most of the large stores dont stock Panasonic TVs. Its only the specialist AV stores that sell them although Govan Mani has started selling the Panasonic LCDs and they have the TH-P50X30A plasma for R 6 999 but this is a HD Ready model and does not have many other features.

After a demo of the Samsung PS51D550 and the Panasonic TH-P50U30Q I decided to go for the Panasonic as I preferred the picture quality over the Samsung.

Ordered it last Thurs and it was delivered to me on Wed. Spent last night unboxing and setting it up. Even out of the box without any tweaking Blu Rays and 720p mkvs of TV series looks fantastic.

Will calibrate it over the weekend using the Video Essentials calibration disc I have.
 
Guys...my first time buying a tv. Dionwired has a LG 32inch FHD LED (32LV3500) for R3500...is that a bargain or am I missing something?

Well it depends what you want the TV for.

I'd imagine a 32" LCD at R3,500, being LED backlit, would mean it's a HD Ready model, and not Full HD, because of the false sense of increased perceived value "LED"[-backlit LCDs] create among the public. I stand corrected, I don't know the model you've mentioned.

I do know that the Samsung LA32D550 LCD is highly rated for a entry LCD, and because I can vouch for it based on my LA32C550, and it's back on special at Game as well for around R3,500. I'd get that. FHD, good blacks, USB HD media player.

Best go and compare both in store, although a store is not a good place to compare due to horrible viewing conditions (lighting, standing too close, etc.).

All/most top mass brand manufacturers only do 1 year warranties now (LG, Samsung, Sony). Anything more is probably a "store-based" warranty, where the store repairs or replaces the faulty TV once outside the manufacturer's 1 year warranty.

Also, Samsung/Sony and LG LCD tech differs. You can read here. Samsung is generally favoured for better blacks/contrast. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TFT_LCD#Types

My pleasure. So just to recap, go test the LG you suggested with the Samsung LA32D550.

Take a USB drive with standard definition and HD rips. I can't comment on the LG's USB port/media player functionality, but Samsung probably has the best in the industry.
 
Nah.. its totally legit..

You give them the money and they send you the items they mentioned... or at least the boxes thereof.
 
Haven't even had my LA-32D550 for 2 months and was watching a movie off the USB now and blammo. Just shuts off. It's completely unresponsive :-(
