LCD and Plasma Bargains

You just need to research before you buy. I have no doubt that plasma is a better tv. If i was going to buy a tv i would not buy LED or LCD.

Glare though is an issue but most people should have curtain so as long as direct light is not hitting the screen it should be good.

They all do. Plasma TVs' cells lose brightness, current LCD tech the backlight wears out etc. They're normally rated for 100 000 hours though, so it should last many years.

Yeah they are pretty dull for anyone that lives in a decently lit house.It seems to me that pro plasma people generally live in draculas dark lair lol and then they claim "the picture is more natural" :D

How blind are you people :-D I think the brightness is more tea and adequate! Just as it is on lcd panels today. I never ever use more than 60% of the brightness setting!

But power consumption aside, Plasma black levels are beautiful! So worth it!

I used to believe that too ...

Someone kept drumming black levels into me and I was convinced that every plasma has better black levels than every LCD. Until a friend bought a PS51 D550 (2012) and I compared the black levels to my LA46B650 (2009) LCD screen and my blacks were deeper and darker ...

Amazing how people make stuff up....lol seriously I saw them side by side and LCD has ten times deeper black than ANY plasma they had in the store,in fact even when switched of a plasma is dark grey compared to LCD pure black so how can the plasma all of a sudden give of "black light" to give true black???Please one of the pro plasma people here tell me how we can get "black" light.

I'm a physics student/engineer and have never heard of this tech you guys boast about.:wtf:

Um, it's LCDs that = grey blacks and washed out colours (generally). You got it wrong I'm afraid.

You don't even list model numbers... Just more and more [incorrect] LCD waffle...

Obviously you are not in tune with modern day technology concerning the latest LCD/LED technologies. What a pity.

In my opinion, less than optimal settings = grey blacks and washed out colours (generally).

In my experience properly set up, same class/price of LCD/LED & Plasma will perform very similarly wrt black levels, although LCD/LEDs have the edge on brightness (when calibrated for best blacks).

Where many Plasma advocates get it wrong is they assume because Pioneer Kuro or Panasonic VT can achieve industry best blacks, this means cheaper (e.g HD Ready) models perform the same. Not so.

I seen it with my own two eyes and my wife was with me she also commented about the contrast.I walked in there to buy a TV with absolutely no bias or knowledge of LCD vs PLASMA,I just wanted a cool new flat screen TV to upgrade from my old 50inch LG crt.

In fact I was probably leaning a bit more towards plasma before walking in as my uncle was an early adopter of large flat screens and he has a Panasonic plasma(dont know model number but it was an early one in silver and speakers on the sides) which was what made me wanna change from crt,it was awesome IMO at the time.

Wow what do you like get a cut from plasma sales or something lol seriously dude ALL THE PLASMA MODELS they had there had dark grey panels when switched of.

When switched on almost ALL THE LCD's had deeper blacks than ALL THE PLASMAS besides maybe one or two that were on par but not one single plasma had deeper blacks than any lcd tv there.

I obviously don't know all the model numbers etc but they had Samsung,LG,Telefunken,Logik,Sony and Sinotec on display next to each other so its easy to compare.

Most LED lit LCD displays definitely have deepest blacks out on the market today,while plasmas still run on dark grey.

Well said,though I haven't seen the Pioneer kuro or panasonic vt range maybe those do indeed give deep blacks that the pro-plasma guys talk about.
 
Well if there is anything I have noticed here, we don't get great plasma models.

When I did my comparisons I put an LG LCD 42" right next to a plasma of same size brand and age. And you could see grey in lcd and black in plasma. The black can be blacker but it was pretty good! Must be really **** plasmas that you have seen!
 
Isn't the PS-51D550 an alright plasma that everyone is raving about it?

That's a 2 year old LCD screen. That test puts the the black level at 0.07cd/m2 - and white levels at 365cd/m2

That's a brand new plasma screen that puts blacks at 0.08cd/m2 and whites 155cd/m2
