LCD & Home Entertainment System reccommendations

Ok

So I am looking to buy myself a LCD and Home Entertainment System and would like some advice and recommendations on what to get and why

I don't really have any preferences to one brand over another as long as it is a tried and tested brand. I am thinking of Sony, LG etc

My requirements for the Home Entertainment System is that it is at least 5.1 and that some of the speakers are floor standing. I have heard about bluetooth speakers though cant seem to find who does them

As for the LCD I am think 42" and it must be Full HD

Other than that I don't really know alot about what is good or bad so any advice is welcome

Don't have a lot of experience , but I'll say go the Sony Bravia route ;)
 
Sony is the trusted brand at a good price.
LG scarlets are nice but expensiv, while older models dont look good.

My choice is between the Samsung and Sonys (a bit more) but the latter, the pic looks better. So i bought the bravia 42" full HD S series (v series is a bit more and all u get is some extra port).
Also have 32" Samsung HD ready, SONY still better.
Have a Sony 5.1 sound system too for 7 years, still perfect. Go for 6.2 system though and one that has HDMI and both must have bravia sync.

Firstly you have to set a budget figure before real recomendations can be made.

Id got for a Sony 46" Bravia W or X series depending on your budget.
The Samsung LED range is alos not so bad...

Home Theatre, I think they all 7.2 these days...
 
Get yourself a Samsung. Arguably better than sony at any price point.
 
Somehow I just can't really spot the main difference in features ect. in the different models of the Sony Bravia range. (z, w, v, x - series' ) :(

Sony is indeed more expensive than the other makes. I was thinking maybe rather LG, Samsung or Sinotec although I haven't completely ruled out Sony just yet

And then if I don't get Sony then Bravia sync is not neccessary right assuming Bravia sysnc has something to do with the Sony Bravia Range

My budget is set in stone but at the same time its not endless. I was planning on looking around first to see what there is and then decide what I can afford. For now conservative estimate is about R15K - R20K for LCD and Home Entertainment System

I disagree 100%, they ALL the same price, check the specs and size, all the brands are the same give or take R500(which will be matched by the store)!
There is no clear winner in terms of price, except for Sinotech.

I am not sure where you are but a good place to chat with is http://www.soundsgreat.co.za/index.html I deal with them in East rand mall
very competitive but once you know what you want then check for bargains as from now on Makro, Dionswired and Game will have good promotions on HT equipment

As a rough guess
Sony DDW7000 7.1 system will be about R8000.00+
Sony Blurayplayer PS3 R4000.00
Sony TV LCD/Plasma R12000.00(S series)-R45000.00 (X series)

I happen to be really close to ERM. I know sounds great but have also associated them with being really expensive more than a Makro or Hi-Fi Corp but might be worth a look thanks

As I said, once you know what you want shop around. When the Sony HT DDW7000 just came out I could get it from him (excluding dvd player as I had PS3) for R7000.00, he would have got it for me.

I will definitely do that. Thanks for all the advice. Those Sony links were exactly the kind of thing I was looking for. Now to just get some pricing. thanks
 
Sony S series for 40" Full HD abt R500 more than Samsung 5 Series - similar specs. LG scarlet much more though, abt 2k, but higher contrast ratio higher.
Sinotec cheap, but awful contract, would not recomend.
Sony S and Samsung 5 retail for between 10-11k at game and makro, when on special.
When i looked at both, they both excellent in pic quality, buth the samsung just seemed a bit less smooth.

Sony 6.2 also abt 5k, i rather have the 6.2 with 2 subs then 7.1 with 1 sub. 7.2 would be ideal (already out overseas for awhile now).
Upper range LCD have >100hz - meaning does not blur with fast moving pics - but at a price - 2 much for me.
U have to get PS3 - complete media centre.

Personally, Sony is the trusted brand and i never had probs. My samsung LCD already has sometimes green pixels on it.

But for u, the best option is to go to a store and see which lcd speaks to u, DION wired have the biggest range.

I posted them because I have the 6.2 system without the HDMI/Bravia. The sound is damn good for the price (Not the best but damn good). I want to upgrade to the 7.1 system but need to sell the older unit first (or donate it to my son).

Regards to LCD TV look at the Full HD 100/120/200 HR'z models. More costly but you will be impressed. Else the Plasma's are a better bet. I hate that spectator or fast movement blurr in the cheaper LCD's. That alone will make ma spend another 5-10K for quality.

Blue-ray, DIVx, dvd, upscaling, music, Pic viewing (i love this), storage, wifi, heck u can even play games on it (remember an HD tv is like a normal tv unless u have or plan to get HD input).
Blue ray is stunning, but it has to be on TV >= 40 (unlike CNA & look&listen who use a 32" and i dont see a big diff).
 
BTW: I know i am ranting abt my personal choices, but thats cos i am happy with them and did my research with what is a costly but worthy investment.

So u have to be happy with yr choice and use our experiences as guidance. Seriously, u have to go and check them for uself. 100hz is awesome but not worth the 5-10k.
Look at it this way, new technology will always be more expensive(like Full hd was twice the price of HD ready - not its almost the same). So 100hz will drop in price much quicker and so i dont wat to pay that price for new technology.
