LG G3

Most probably going to be R9500+.

It's currently the best Android phone on the planet, so will come with a premium.

It's one of the best, even has a fricken "laser"

autofocus, but:

It's plastic, and it's the size of a Note 3 but lacks a stylus. I'd say it's tied with the Xperia Z2. Also one, backwards-facing speaker. Unless you want to take underwater photos, then the Z2 wins hands down :D

The screen resolution makes it the champion.

No other phone can actually compete.

It's a pointless spec, I can just as well point to the Xperia's much higher camera resolution.

The Oppo Find 7 has exactly the same specs as the G3 including the display, and it was announced earlier.

So then why didn't we stop at 720p resolutions for phones and declared anything better pointless?

If someone tried claiming a plastic phone was the bestest ever purely because the only thing it had better was a higher resolution, we surely would have.

I know your style, but in case anyone who cares is reading this, it's a great phone but "the best" doesn't exist. The days when one phone was objectively the best are long gone. Back then it was easy to find a phone that was better in every way than anything else. These days they are all so close to each other and each one compromises in some areas. As far as Android is concerned at least. Same CPUs etc. They are so close that you need to examine how the minor differences between each fits in with your preferences.

If you care about the highest resolution, and don't care about looks or materials used, the best FOR YOU would be the G3 or the Find 7.

Some (like me) won't mind an invisibly lower resolution for better build materials and being able to hear sound from the phone when it's lying face up and would prefer the Z2 or htc M8. If you want waterproofing or a decent camera, it's the Z2. If you want the best speakers or aluminium, it's the htc.

If none of these are a priority and you care most about gimmicks you will never use, or if you're careless with your multi-thousand rand electronics and think the ADH warranty is the best thing ever, then the Galaxy S5 is THE BEST for you.

I am still perplexed as to why people still insist on metal phones, while we all know radio antennas hate metal.

Like saying, I don't mind if my reception is crap, it needs to look good.

I care, nicely summed up :)

Watched another short review. Dude said the software isn't as smooth as it should be. But he did say that these were the review models, so software might not be final.

Screen, he said, if you are not chinese or something similar, you probably won't see a massive difference. The screen is only noticeably better than something like the S5 when you look at the small details, like chinese lettering. Anything else, no diffs.

Battery life he said is the same as the G2,which was decent apparently.

Camera wise, he said the G3 is the best overall performer. Not the best in the dark, but decent because of the ois. HTC better. Not the best in daylight, but solid enough, S5 better. Overall very good and decent. HTC fails in daylight, and S5 in low light. Which makes G3 best overall.

He was most impressed how they fit such a giant screen in such a small body. Best feature for him.

Software look and feel has been improved from the G2.

Are you doing LG G3 mini reviews now?

I'm worried now, cause I'm coming from 2+ year old S3 (720p display)..

Resolution is so much better on G3 (4 times better).. Will my eyes even handle this??

I'm sooo keen for this phone :)

I visited Vodacom and played with a S5 and try as I may I could not see the pixels on the screen. So I am sceptical that I will see any improvement in the G3.As far as I know any video not shot in 4k will not benefit from the new screen.I am looking forward to see the new phone.

Rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it...

My guess is they've got a jump on the screen hardware and we'll just have to sit tight until content and apps are produced to take advantage of the display.. My question is will the RAM/processor still be able to keep up with all the expected future content 1-2 years down the road..

So when can I pick one up I'm due for my upgrade next month?

If I had to guess on the information provided in this thread so far, the earliest would be August sometime if you want it on contract. Probably a bit earlier if you just want to buy it outright.

That's good to know I'm due on the 8th of August see. Hope to see some pictures and info on the upcoming Iphone6 as well.

Phone seems a bit on the large side ,but looks much better than the ugly S5.

In the meantime I'm still enjoying my S4 :)
