Can anyone else check for me if Github clones are also super slow on Lightspeed?
I'm testing using this repo: https://github.com/FokkeZB/Tutorial

Don't know if you still wanted this, Probably not since this is on Telkom and you asked for Lightspeed, sorry.

time git clone https://github.com/FokkeZB/Tutorial
Cloning into 'Tutorial'...
remote: Counting objects: 847, done.
remote: Total 847 (delta 0), reused 0 (delta 0), pack-reused 847
Receiving objects: 100% (847/847), 47.20 MiB | 2.26 MiB/s, done.
Resolving deltas: 100% (247/247), done.
real 0m59.855s

Downloading took about 30second, then git stood and did something. after the deltas, no idea what

Just got a mail back now from support telling me that they have finally escalated the issue.

I'll update this thread with my progress.

OK so I'm toying with the idea of having Lightspeed come in and connect part of our suburb. Our story is that we only have dark fibre running in a few parts of the suburb and I can't get any info from the other big guys about if/when they're coming to our area.

Lightspeed said they need a commitment of R16.5k to come in and lay fibre to our homes but I'm unsure about how it works exactly.

I am 300m away from the DFA fibre link so do I need to rally the residents between me and the fibre? Maybe a map would help:

So DFA is running here:

I'm on Van Leenhof Street.

Lightspeed said this:

Thanks for your email.
You need to rally this kind of commitment from your neighbors anyone who is less than 300m to Willem Erasmus street and Aletta street because that is where live fiber is running.

That email seems to imply that I can ask people in the red block to sign up, where Aletta runs straight down the middle.

So which area exactly would you say I need to target to get the R16.5k commitment? These Lightspeed support emails are unclear.

Lightspeed is fscking useless. When I inquired I was quoted R10 000 from all neighbours in the area. Thats what I did, I now have approx 12 - 13k and now all of a sudden Lightspeed change their story. Now they say that R10 000 isn't enough but they cannot tell me how much it is going to cost. Now they need to escalate the issue to higher management. I swear, these guys are a bunch of useless monkeys. Now I'm going to get a quote of 40k to roll out fibre in the area. I am also very close to DFA cable. Oh and now they also claim that the R10 000 is per street wtf!? How much worse can these useless monkeys be!

I am extremely not impressed by their service, their lies and deceit thus far.

I would stay far away from these guys because they don't seem to know whats going on.

That sucks.

All I can say is that with their Business products I had an excellent experience from day 1 when I enquired about the product. Cannot vouch for their consumer offerings though.

I guess that's the difference. Their service is good for business but for home use they suck ballz.

Seriously, how can they send me an email and lie to me about the cost and then claim that it's not enough and need more monies. What kind of amateur business are they running there!? You'd think them being Cybersmart and all would mean they actually have a clue.

Now I'm waiting for upper management to call me and tell me, oh sorry it's not R10 000 per month it's R40 000 per month and then follow up with some bulkshkit story about why the price has gone up and how sorry they are for dropping the ballZ.

Everyone has a different story. First time I emailed them for our complex, they said R15 000. Then that guy stopped responding and I've emailed them again. Second person said R47 000. After a while I tried again and the third person said it is not available in my area.

After receiving an email quoting me R10 000, I then get told "oh sorry, we lied to you, actually we charge R10 000 for every 150 - 200 meters of fibre that we have to lay"

Morons! They don't even know their own business model! They couldn't even give me a proper price. They had to escalate to upper management to give me a price. Is this some sort of delayed April Fools joke or something?

They are the only provider that will roll out to our area since we already fall within the coverage map. Just not an active FTTH precint. All other providers require like 280 sign ups which is impossible for me to get. My area doesn't even have that many houses.

It's quite a bit more complex than that.
We are also looking at getting fibre in our sunburb and Laurie came out to chat to us because we had quite a few people signed up.

To do an install in a neighbourhood they need to finance a couple hundred grand from the bank and then put a proposal through to council before they can even break ground. Then there are all sorts of hidden costs like if they can't dig in certain roads or they need to avoid other buried services.

Also they can't just run the fibre to the dark fibre passing your street, they have to connect to a main hub then still try and connect to all the people who have signed up.

The entire process is a massive risk and the installation cost is nowhere near the 3k they charge. They only really start making their money back after the first 2 years.

So To be fair to them it's impossible to give an exact number off the top of their heads. They still seem like one of the better providers out there and we have looked at a few.

Then don't send me an email saying get a 10k commitment from your neighbors and we'll do it and then when I do tell me it's not enough.
