Hi Guys

I am new here so please be gentle. I recently (December 10th or so) upgraded my telkom line to a 4meg. They then advised me to give mweb a call ( Our data provider) and inform them of the change. I gave them a call and they configured everything on there side and things were all fine and dandy (avg download speed with torrents and speedtest.net was around 500kbs) which was normal at the time considering my siblings need for 24/7 online gaming.

Everything worked fine for a week or so, then the line dropped down to 20-60kbs. I gave telkom a call (2hrs waiting time because they're awesome) and they logged a complaint and said tech support will get ahold of me in 4 working days. So far no news. This was done before christmas already and I have had no technician call me or sort out the issue at all. After waiting patiently I decided to phone telkom again and they said that everything was fine on their side and that I must contact Mweb. Mweb said the same thing and now its become a blame game. I have had someone from mweb give me a call saying our data usage ranges from 15-20gigs a day ( I have no idea how) I have manually logged into our router settings and disabled the wireless so no one can connect and drain our internet but the line speed still idols at around 20-50 kbs. I don't understand it.

Is this the correct speed for such a thing? If so, then I may as well downgrade the line as I see no point in having a 4meg line if downloads are that slow. Anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this issue? At a friends house he has a 1meg line and he gets download speeds much faster then that.

Uncapped. Its a shaped account though but that shouldnt be an issue. Also, the telkom exchange is abt 300-350m from my place. I can see it if I look out the window.

invoke your router, the whole ip in web address thing, look for adsl status or diagnostics or something similar

"I have had someone from mweb give me a call saying our data usage ranges from 15-20gigs a day" thats pretty much constant downloading , hard for me too do, wow!

I will have to check on the sync when I am at home. I have also had someone from mweb tell me my data usage is around 15-30gigs per day... ranges differ each day... kinda hard when download speeds are at 30kbs avarage... also I don't think online gaming should be an issue when my brother works during the day and only plays about 2-3hours a day

i havent got told that just surprised u got told that, its, even harder on wi-fi :wtf: , is it possible to hijack a adsl line directly from the exchange  i just got curious

Misunderstood sorry. Yeah I had the same reaction when he told me. I have been download ( attempting to download rather ) from torrents (50+seeds) at 35kbs on avarage for the past 2 weeks or so and have only managed to download 6.51gigs. I know torrents aren't exactly the best source for finding out what your download speed sits at but still... Thats why I am a little concerned with regards to what mweb say is our usage vs what our line speed really is. Browsing the internet is fine, but downloads is horrible

55.4 kbs download speed and 81.4kbs upload speed... ping sits at 260ms. Test was taken at speedtest.net

Waiting for the MWEB guy want to hear what they have to say ........Pm the MWEB guy on this forum
i would like to know if they are throttling your speed ( MWEB )

Sorry for the delay. I was in the office when I opened this thread and only got home now. So I gave telkom a call (45min waiting on the line listen to the same damn music and the same guy give me "helpful hints") and they only realised now that for some reason my setup was set to 10meg line and my house for some reason does not support a 10meg line... so basically i have been billed a month for a 10meg line that was non existent... so i downgraded it to a 4meg line so hopefully it should work a bit better... noise levels were sitting at about 16 and speedtest.net says my download speed is about 240kbs, upload speed is 50kbs, ping is 128... still doesnt sound right but its at least a bit better then what it was...

I would like to hear their answer on this forum

Just did a couple more speed tests and the speeds sropped down to 81kbs... what the **** is going on...

So I tried checking out the sync as previously said but all it comes up with is a field that says pass... no other details are available for me to check

Now it is 59kB/s and upload speed is 38.5 kB/s... Tested on speedtest.net using a Recommended Server

Copy and past the speed test from this site here pls. them we can see your results
