Linux Mint 13 Maya released

I installed the Debian version on my netbook to test it out, and you have to get used to the very slow pace of Debian. It has now been 10 days without any updates at all. And it is based on Debian Testing!!!

Well...when Linux Mint does move away from Ubuntu..then that is something I guess we will have to live with. I dont particularly mind I guess. Perhaps it is better to have a stable system than a "most up to date" one? I still dont really understand what the difference is really between Ubuntu and Debian anyways? Ubuntu is based on Debian not so?

LMDE is based on Debian testing, not stable.

Ubuntu takes a snapshot of Debian unstable every 6 months, stabilises & polishes the code during the development cycle and then releases it. So for Ubuntu 12.04 they would have a snapshot of Debian unstable how it was on Oct 2011 with a few updates here and there occasionally.

Debian testing is not bad and relatively up to date. The lack of updates MyWorld mentions is due to Debian about to enter it's freeze period. In the initial testing phase the updates are thick and fast every day. Be careful what you wish for young padawan :p :D

If I was on uncapped I would be running either Debian testing or Arch.

Just waiting for all my stuff to copy over to my external drive and then gonna install. About 2 hours remaining. God...did not realize I downloaded this much porn since my last fresh install! YIKES! I think I might have a problem! :p

Yeah its called PEBKAC

WTH dont you use partitioning system?

Mount /home on a separate partition/drive then you don't have to care on reloads, or even better I have a separate drive (You might see it as Store in my screenshots) that is formatted as NTFS and I link my Documents/Movies/Music/Downloads folders to ones on that drive. That way I can boot any Linux or even Windows and still access all my Media.

Too much effort hehe. Besides...I want all my stuff on external drive. That is why I bought it. I just need to start being diciplined and when something has downloaded, move it over immediately, and not hoard it untill the last minute that I want to install a new Linux Mint :-)

46 minutes to go. *sigh*

Is it my imagination or did Mint 13 give my laptop a massive volume boost??? Normally i would have volume on 100% with headphones....now it is maybe on 70 and WAY LOUDER!

This is still something I have to figure out. In Ubuntu 12.04 if I play music through VLC at 100% it's way louder than via Audacious at 100%. Played around with alsamixer but I'm still lost.

Did you check what the gain is set at in Audacious/Preferences/Replay Gain?. If it's negative, change it to 0 (or whatever work better).

It was 0, I tried increasing it but got distortion.

So Updated my Mint 13 last night...and now the volume is soft again like it used to be...and I see now that in sound settings I cant push it over 100% anymore. SUCKS!!!!

edit: never mind....see in sound settings you need to change it under applications for VLC...then you can make it nice and loud.

Elaborate?

Some days i think i should just go back to Arch.

Like so. You can change the main volume...which I noticed now you can in fact go over 100%. I had a blond moment there...then on the applications tab you can make VLC louder too. After the update that was set to very soft...even though my VLC sound in the application was on 100%. Could not figure why it was so soft...till I snooped around a bit. Gotta say....loving Mint 13

Hey we all had those kind of days. Pity I did not see this earlier, as I would have suggested to repair it 1st.

Oh and it might have been a good idea to have 2 partitions at least / and /home so when you do reinstall everything is as you left it.

I cant even load a custom ROM on my Defy...never mind repair a messed up Linux install. Busy running photorec to recover my music. 1h40m left. Laptop dead slow while it is running. I know I am being dramatic...but sh*t like this really just make me HATE technology! HATE IT!!!!:sick::sick:

Dont understand what could have happened. Did not change any settings...there was no updates for Mint yesterday...it booted down 100% when I went to bed and when I switched it on when I got home today it was just totally fcked!:mad: And just to top it off my mouse also on its way out...I press ones but it registeres a double click. Guess I will have to get a new one too. bleh.

/SIGH
