Load Shedding - the all in one thread

Proudly half assed.
You scratch my back, I scratch yours - any nits you find you can eat.

govt vs eskom

heard over radio the whole ekhurleni municipality cut the power of eskom instructions... eskom replied saying they only advised that they should be on standby...

Who is more incompotent?

And just where are they gonna to get power from if our national grid collapses?
Who will come rushing to our aid? Zim? Swaziland?

Here is an idea - lets create a moerse battery.
Zimbabwe is a very negative place and Swaziland has so much AIDS that it positive.
Stick one pole in zim one in swaziland and that will supply a few 1000Mw

lolol..good one :)

It does not work. I have yet to see any pattern.
If it is on the last brown block now, and its stage 2, what is stage 3?

I think stage 1 is 1 cut per day, stage 2 is 2 cuts, and so stage 3 is 3 cuts.
Western Cape was on Stage 1 earlier, but now is on stage 2

Well, we just had a 2 hour stint now - except it was 2:15.

Day gone - may as well stop working - took me from 6-8am to get into the zone, then power out, so over to notebook which is only good for internet, and now back to PC - not really in the mood for another 2 hour setup time just so I can be loadk4ked at 2pm again.

Supply of generators dries up

Johannesburg - Homeowners and businesses are being forced to generate their own electricity as blackouts strike everywhere, but suppliers are running out of generators and many do not expect new stock for weeks, the Sowetan reported on Wednesday.

David Cooksley, a generator engineer and supplier in Johannesburg, told the newspaper that he had run out of stock and even the parts to build them.

He said clients had paid for generators that he could not complete because he did not have the cages to mount them in.

"We can't find supplies, alternators, bars, you name it.

"There is nothing in the country to build new generators with and this spells a waiting period of about eight weeks," he said.

generator - help with Hz and Volts - 600VA!!!

question for the crowd:

have a 5.5kva petrol generator.

have hooked up a 1000VA powercom ups to it - using the monitoring software to check volts and Hz inputs..

Now

eskom power gives me 225V,49.8-50.2Hz...

when my generator is on - i can start my ups (1000VA) - it it sorta works...very sensitive to the load i give it vs normal eskom power with load.

anyhow - my Q: - why the !@$!@ can't i get a mecer 600VA ups to start..

have been told push generator to 244V/58Hz ....but when i turn the screw behind the carburator the revs pick up like it should - get to 244V - but my Hz is only 52Hz ....

so - has anybody with a "cheaper" 600VA been able to get a 4-6kva generator to gel - what were your input readings with software/multimeter

Your UPS needs to be "generator capable".
There is a thread about this - but cannot remember where.

My one UPS works the other does not.
I also find it works better if it is less "flat/discharged".

True sine wave vs. semi-sine wave vs. square wave .... causes many UPS's to ignore the input they get from a genny. Or something to that effect.

Does anyone know which Chinese or Indian company builds portable nuclear power plants for home use ??
Willing to import for domestic purposes. :D

Moederloos - I'll register the cc and all that, then we sell some of those units to eishkom! I always wanted a "huisie by die see" before i'm 35 !

The ANC must have sat down.
As we all know, the Sun shines out of their posteriors.

Oh, crap. According to the power alert site, the Western Cape is now on stage 3 load shedding. We were off from 10h00 to 12h15, will go out again from 14h00 to 16h30 and then again from 20h00 tot 22h30!!

Have we ever before reached Stage 3 of shedding?
Wonder if downed Koeberg 2 has anything to do with this whatsoever ?!

I vaguely recall so, yes. But never for the whole day. It has been Stage 3 for ages. Tomorrow they going to go "one better" ?

Yeah. Black out. The National Grid going in "self protect" mode and shutting down. It'll take hours (days) to get it all back online due to the admitted lack of skills. Might be a good thing - a fresh start. Maybe they dont know where all the power is going to at present!
