Geyser

I put a little lamp into the ceiling, so I can see when
the Geyser is on or off, I can even time it and the
thermostat is set to appr. 60 degrees. Works for more
the 20 Years.

I am almost as bad. I can tell from the little flashing light on my prepaid meter what is on in the house!

Perhaps his geyser is continuously overflowing, or, perhaps he also turned down it's thermostat to 65 from 95.

Let me elaborate, he apparently has 2 geysers and a pool pump running on the timer switch which probably better explains the 50% saving..

Pool pumps tend to have their own.

and 2 geysers is then R110 - still not R500

Only way to get a sky-high geyser account is either

- Too high a temp setting with very little isulation

- Dripping hot water tap

- Too many people taking a bath (or shower) :D

Well, so can I, but its not exactly a 'trick' to know... there are certain things that just chow electricity.

If my mom is making supper on the stove, the lights flicker like mad, if the geyser is on, it does too.

That's the only 2 items in MY residence that chow electricity (as far as I know)

It's a 4 bedroom 2 bathroom house so perhaps there is a lot of hot water used in his household. Pool pump normally runs on a 12 hour cycle, perhaps he's trimmed that to 6...
 
Ethekwini Municipality Load Shed Schedule

The new load shed schedule for the Ethekwini Municipality released yesterday and came into effect at midnight last night!

Program 1 would apply on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays and Program 2 would apply on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.

Example
If Eskom requests a Load-Shed at 14H00 on Monday Block 8 of Program 1 will be affected.

Guys, I heard the following through the grapevine. A farmer that has a diesel cut a deal with Eskom. Everyday at a specific time, he cuts over to the diesel and does not use Eskom power for an hour or two. Because he is willing to do that, Eskom is giving him all the diesel that he requires to be able to do that.

Now why is Eskom not cutting a deal like that with the rest of us that have diesel generators?

Let me tell you something about Las Vegas in the US. Las Vegas does not have enough water for all the people that live there. So what did the Las Vegas "municipality" do? They asked every person that has big lawns to remove those lawns and plant desert plants and for doing that they gave each house owner a rebate on their account. It is so brilliant. Who would say no to saving money. That way the hotels that carry the city had enough water and the city could grow!

Why can't Eskom come out with a similar recommendation? Because they are a greedy bunch of so and so's.

Just what are said farmer doing on his farm that neccesitate this arrangement?
 
Just got shed for 4 hours. Thanks Eskom for completely screwing up my one night in the week to go out and jol. Fsck you :mad:
 
Ye same the power was out for 4 hours back for 5 minutes out for another hour and has now finally settled down... I hope.

The load shedding is actually a major crime target. Any criminal can check the schedule, see when the electric fences will be off, no problem.
I hope I'm not giving any of you guys any ideas ;). I also have to turn off my car and manually open garage doors, becoming myself a target of crime. Eskom is going to end up crippling this whole country.

My area has not had any power problems today, entire day.
Everyday we get nailed but not today! (touch wood cause its only 10:40pm) but ya.

I'm in Vredehoek, CPT.

Maybe "Helen" is visiting friends in this area tonight - haha.

all the traffic lights in burnett street were out - again.
