Load Shedding - the all in one thread

Schedule B is Mon, Wed, Friday
Schedule A is Tues, Thurs, Sat, Sunday
..... the timeslots however can be changed/revised. But nowhere can I find on them websaait saying if there has been *any* modifications to the schedules/timeslots.

Ja, red means no load shedding AFAIK, but it's very close to brown, so load shedding is a strong possibility.

Interesting article in The Star today about a man who has a timer switch on his geyser, It cost him R650 including installation and he claims his electricity bill has come down from R1000 to under R500!!!

I reckon this switch could be a bit of a win for every home owner and this minor modification will also deny Eskom 50% of their revenue!!!...

well if true, put that in after eskom start their quota system, then you will look like a hero and get the "incentives" that eskom are talking about.

They do not work.

I have tried doing it myself - switch geyser off, and on manually.
Used to switch it on for a few hours a day, and off the rest (4 on, 20 off).
Made not a wit of difference.

On the other hand, if they do work (they dont), that oke has just screwed himself.
Now, when the quota comes into effect, his biggest saving path has been removed already.

yes for him, not for the rest of us. Its the same for all things the early adaptors get nailed harder that the others like buying the latest products that usually carry a premium until everyone is buying them.

Well, according to Debbi's post, the Geyser only consumes like R55 a month in normal use, so it cannot save 500.
Perhaps his geyser is continuously overflowing, or, perhaps he also turned down it's thermostat to 65 from 95.

This is pretty much what I wanted to say... especially turning down the thermostat, that will help in bringing the bill down alot too.

I think this guy from the article was 'exaggerating' a bit.

I have turned down my thermostat to 65 around.

See no need for a thermostat to be at 90 when you do put cold water in at the end.

55 is too cold, esp in winter.

65 is the lowest I'll go.

The problem is people often exaggerate so as to justify the expense to themselves. "If I tell people I am saving R40 a month and it will take 5 years to recoup they will think me a fool."

That's a line from Simon & Garfunkel - Sound of Silence.

Yip bud but the messages I receive concerning load shedding is out and I am enjoying every moment,... even if I get choked sending someone a PM ... what the heck...

Something must be wrong - my daily power cut has not taken place yet. Should I phone Eskom and and ask them what's up. I'm getting slightly worried.

Have no fear - they are saving it up for a bigger one later. Two for the price of one!
