Load Shedding - the all in one thread

Power out: Pretoriuspark, Pretoria:

09h40 13h50

4 Hours!!!!

Yeah. Black out. The National Grid going in "self protect" mode and shutting down. It'll take hours (days) to get it all back online due to the admitted lack of skills. Might be a good thing - a fresh start. Maybe they dont know where all the power is going to at present!

My wife had a meeting with the Eskum manager for the Free State or whatever region we are. She (the manager) said that if the national grid went down it would take two weeks to get it up again (obviously they've never heard of viagra!).

Of course you don't need a fool like me to draw you a picture of South Africa with no power for two weeks..

She also pointed out that in the rural areas, as the people know when their power will go off, they go out and steal the cabling safe in the knowledge that it's risk free..

We've been having ON/OFF power for the past two weeks. And not-so-skilled people still rule our power supply system. Maybe NO power for two weeks will de-throne them and get them replaced by more competent and skilled engineers and managers. Restoring power to the people.
Competency mentioned - two weeks - for people who understand the grid and its workings, or people who dont fully understand it??
Lighter side - power station on viagra, at least our Hertz will be higher, so time will pass quicker! :-)

Gatiep and Karools are sitting on death row. Gatiep says to the

Warder,

does this take long and is it painfull?
Warder say's no they just strap you in and flick the switch and its over.>

Karools is called in, moments later Gatiep hears screeming shouting and this carries on for quite a while.

Gatiep says to the Warder I thought you said it was quick and painless.

Warder replies that as result of the load shedding they have to use candles.

Moederloos - we should get you into guvvamunt. you have the right mindset!
Sandmanm - shame on me! perhaps they must be replaced with even more skilled ... !

I don't even want to THINK of the loss this country had since the power shortage. All i know is we are going to sh*t...Price increase, less goods available, food hikes, computer breakdowns, Rand/Dollar hike, etc etc...

I think they stopped saying because everyone was putting two and two together and realising that the shortfall of 3500MW was equal to the exports to Africa.

702 said that Eskom are presently running with 75% of their generation capacity and had a 4000MW shortfall today.

Look here:

We only had power for 3 hours between 5:30am this morning and 6pm this evening. If this continues for another week we will definitely have to let one of the staff go as revenue is way down.

I want to quote a wise* man: "no effect on the economy of Gauteng".

* yeah - right.

I just heard on E-Tv...seems there is an option that they want to get the "retrenched" guys back in their old possitions at koeberg...They got rid of the "brains" that ran Koeberg and now wants them back...can you believe :(

If these are the figures Eskom gave them (where else would they have gotten them), then I suspect it is a lot worse. Try 60% and 6500MW on for size.
