Load Shedding - the all in one thread

I just heard on E-Tv...seems there is an option that they want to get the "retrenched" guys back in their old possitions at koeberg...They got rid of the "brains" that ran Koeberg and now wants them back...can you believe :(

If I were one of those retrenched I'd take great delight in wrapping my steaming answer in their fax.

Screw them, they wanted to play big man on campus without help, now they can get hoist by their own petard..

BHP Billiton / Eskom

Is it true that BHP Billiton sell coal to Eskom and buy back electricity at a reduced rate? Sounds like a scam?

Just want to share something with you guys.

My aunt who works at a school here in PTA shared this with me yesterday. Their power was off from 9:00 till 16:00 yesterday while it was supposed to be off only from 13:00 till 16:00.

So they phoned Eskom and was told that Eskom is planning to change the policy and totally remove schedules and just put off the power whenever they want since they are being sued when they don't keep to the schedule.

This just keeps getting worse and worse by the day.

9 to 4 again eh?

I got a letter in the post box yesterday about how our power is going off from 9 to 4 to repair broken electricity poles in my area - something seems off because there are no broken polls in my area.

As for it getting worse and worse, it's true - things will only get worse till something major happens.

The Democratic Alliance says it will raise questions in parliament about the bonuses paid to Eskom senior managers.

The parastatal's executives earned a total of R71.4m over the past three years, R57m of that figure in bonuses.

Eskom has faced harsh criticism from business, political parties and the public due to the latest round of rolling blackouts, which peaked with the worst day of power cuts yesterday - and things may deteriorate further.

Eskom says ongoing power cuts, which were expected to end yesterday, will now continue for at least two to four weeks.

The DA's Manie van Wyk says it's unacceptable the utility has failed to use its finances effectively and wisely.
Not only should these clowns not be getting bonuses but they should all be sacked for gross negligence...

Right, I don't know if this has been discussed.

Has anyone been monitoring the poweralert site.
I've just watched it go from brown stage 2 to red stage 2 in 10minutes.
Eskom need to be providing people with more information than that silly graph, like current usage, available capacity, capacity down for maintenance etc etc....

What completely ticks me off, is the ANC can just sit back and say sorry, and we can't do anything about it.
It's an outrage.

lol - the broken poll was the last election.

/joke

From the above posts, quite clear the power was down for longer then three hours. I work in Santdon central and the power was down for 6 hours.

How eskom can blatently lie is unbelievable, see the following article:
http://www.iol.co.za/index.php?from=rss_News&set_id=1&click_id=79&art_id=vn20080125030045167C706275

"Some areas had more than one cut. Nobody had three cuts or more."

Nonsense.

Its true - Sandton only had one power cut - its just that it lasted 6 hours:
*frustrated beyond words at this useless country* (sorry - no emoticon to indicate that)

Its a useless site, they can provided the simplified version for those who want it but they should also provide a more advanced, detailed version. Maybe they don't want that info out there though?

They don't even seem to care.

I heard via a person via someone else, so this may be inaccurate:

702 reported that Eskom needed to shed 4000MW yesterday, which they said was 25% of the usage.

So, 25% = 4000, then 100% = 16000MW.

I thought they had 38000MW?

Anyone able to confirm or deny this (702) report?

That's scary if that much is down, although nothing would surprise me anymore. It'd mean that more than half of Eskom's capacity is non functional at the moment then.

I just heard now that someone reported Escom is at 30000MW - so, short 8000MW.

Again, second hand info.

fook me theres ALOT of Eskom threads...right now I counted 11 on the news & affairs thread....snorezzz

The poweralert site shows red, meaning no load shedding. Anybody out at the moment?
I guess the shutting down of the mines "did the trick."

Abe said on another thread that he was being load shedded.
