Local News Server Retention days

Hi All

Just started with downloading from News Servers and would like to find out which "local" service provider provides the best speeds and longest retention time. Would like to prevent having to buy an international account with one of the News Servers providers. If people could post what they get, as per below, it would be appreciated.

Provider : Afrihost
Linespeed: 10Mbps
Account:10Mbps Uncapped
Avg Download speed: 200KB/s to 600KB/s (depending on time of day) = 1600Kbps to 4800Kbps
Retention : 59 days (my best guess at the moment)
 
Retention of 59 days is pretty good for a local news server. Usually it is like 2 weeks.
 
You're better off paying for something like Astraweb, which is 1500+ days retention, 10Mbit/s with 20 connections, SSL for 20USD/3 months. I should really get a referral link, because it is that good of a deal. 59 day retention is horrid, in the grand scheme of never being able to catch up.
 
Longest free server is the WebAfrica one at ~140 days. It requires WA data though.

Plenty of answers to your question. I am curious though what you are going to be using the news service for that you want it to be a long retained service.
I can understand students doing historical research that they would like access to old news but am wondering what you want to use it for.

Afrihost and Axxess uses Highwinds.... Not local.
Not sure about saix, but IS has a very low retention. Usually 7 days but it depends on whether it's been cached again.

With telkom (saix) I regularly pulled items over 200 days.

Pulling off quite a necro act here... Well, at least it wasn't the thread from 2006.

I was wondering what the retention for the IS news server is ?
 
Which ISP is IS? I've never heard about it or even seen an ad for the company:s

IS is Internet Solutions, which has been the backbone network that most SA ISP's has been using/reselling. You cannot buy directly from IS.

SAIX (Telkom) used to be the only other network in SA, and then recently MWEB got their own, and then a few months ago MTN launcher theirs.

So now many ISP's, like Afrihost, are using MTN's infrastructure. There are still a lot of ISPs who are reselling IS, like OpenWeb for instance.
As far as I know MTN does not have their own local news server, but Afrihost do have a free one that is hosted internationally.
