Logik 47 vs Sinotec 47

Ok , so now I'm even more confused.

Went to a shop close by , Deals Direct , they have a plasma 50 for R8799 , spent probably about 20 minutes playing with contrast etc and I must say it really does look good. I did some googling and found this , i know i know quality vs quantity , seems they use Samsung panels as well. 2 year guarantee from Deals Direct.

To give quick backround , I watch movies probably 80% of the time with PS3 gaming and SABC (*sic*) the other 20%. Some say plasma is better for movies etc , some say LCD is. i don't want to start a war here but I really don't want to spend R10K on a 40 Sony only to find out the SD content is not good and I might as well have bought a bigger 50 Plasma.

Once again , any help/suggestions/slaps upside the head will be appreciated.

And errr , can we stay on topic please :P

Full HD? Make?

I'm curious how (*sic*) fits in the context of that sentence. :P

Sorry, okay back to the topic at hand....

Full HD , Make is Euroline *eeek*

Been trying to find some info on the net , none yet , I suspect the model nr I have may be different , which already has me suspicious.

The Hyundai LCD model (HD-42F) was also fairly impressive , they actually have it right next to a Sammy , and quality it looks about the same (darkers seemed better on the Sammy). I checked the feeds at the back and they seem to be coming from the same source.

I'm still torn between LCD vs Plasma for my needs , googling as we speak :P

I'm going to give you an easy answer here.

you will be satisfied with Sinotec's FullHD, and dissapointed by it's SD (or so i've heard - Never watched SD TV on it before)

You will also be satisfied by a more expensive Sony on HD, perhaps more than with a Sino, and it's SD too, will look better than a Sino's, but it will still fall short man

So in short,
The SD on a Sony might look better than on a Sinotech, but it will still look crap =/

and Plasma displays SD content better than LCD do btw.

I am also doing some research on the Plasma vs Lcd and my conclusion is that if you go for a plasma, go for higher end makes ie. Toshiba or Sharp if you on a budget stick to lcd...the prices have come down quite a bit. Hi Fi corp is selling a 42" full hd Hisense (which is one of the better "no Name" brands around) for R6499. At the higher end you can get a 40" Sony V series 550 lcd for 10k which is a very good buy atm. The special is from Sony, so one can buy from any reputable dealer.
I spoke to a 3 reputable installers of hd decoders/tv's and all 3 recommended the Sony lcd, and advised to stay away from plasma all together.

Thanks for the feedback. I don't see myself getting DSTV anytime soon , so I suspect I will be leaning towards Plasma. I know the issue with burn in has been addressed in the later model plasmas? Now again I am faced with the task of choosing which brand. I was really impressed with the "no name" Euroline Plasma @ Deals Direct , but obviously cheap isn't always better. Anyway do some more digging and report back...

Yeh - really ****ty products:
http://www.whathifi.com/Review/Wharfedale-Diamond-101/

Considering they're under half the price here than in the UK - I can see why you're complaining.
My point is that although Wharfedale may have a selection of really good products, they mainly cater to the lower income consumer and thereby predominantly make lower grade/quality products.

A perfect example of this is a company like Hyundai. Although they do have some really good cars, like the new Tiburon and the Tucson, they've traditionally catered mostly to the masses.

yeah, just because chumba wamba had 1 good song it doesn't make the rest of it any better.... if you guys say the Warfedale/Diamond 101 is good, that's nice, but the rest of their stuff is pure junk

Their speakers are still good quality (vs. price).... never bothered with their other products, IIRC, they sold the rights to use their brand name on other products

But to say a suppliers complete product base is cheap and useless without actually knowing anything about the products isn't exactly right.

I can say Sinotec is crap because its not Samsung or Sony, and I've only used their bed side alarm clock - and its cheaply made in SA. Or Samsung is useless because their toaster burnt my toast.

Plasma is best for sport and SD TV. It's also fine for HD TV/content (720p). Plasma is good if you're getting an HD PVR because Monochoice has no plans of going full HD (1080p) in the next 5+ years.

Nope - but I did my homework - I'm busy looking for home speakers :) I don't own a single Wharfedale product.

I think I've settled on these, just waiting for a demo on the 15th at my home Polk Audio RTI9:

Although I might get a set of Wharfedale Diamond 10.1 speakers for my study, at R1,200 you can't go wrong.

Best bang for your buck would be a Samsung/LG 42" HD Ready plasma ... the ones going for about R7K-R8K.

If you can stretch your budget a bit, get a Panasonic plasma ... either 720p or 1080p ... doesn't really matter ... the difference between a 720p panel and a 1080p panel showing a FullHD BluRay is negligible. Contrast levels, colour correctness and motion processing are much much much more important factors of PQ.

I got the 47" Sinotec for R9500 from Game just over a month ago and for FullHD content and playing PC games at 1920x1080, it's just amazing. I don't ever watch normal TV on it though as it is hooked up permanently to my PC. SABC quality is not that great but you'd expect that because of the picture being stretched to around 4 times it's normal size. SABC did look a bit better on my previous 32" Samsung but it's most probably due to the smaller size.

I think the Sinotecs look a bit better asthetically compared to the Logiks, as the Logiks have shiny polished black borders like the Samsungs. When light reflects off it you can see the uneveness...even on the Samsungs. The 47" Sinotec has a matt black finish which reflects no light. Also, you get a 5 year guarantee with the Sinotec vs 3 year with the Logik.

Take the Logik 47" over the Sinotec. The Sinotec is a straight forward full-HD LCD panel with no other features, whereas the Logik does have DNR (Digital Noise Reduction), which helps sharpen the image of SD signals.
If you are worried about the 2yr warranty difference, take out an extended warranty from Game. I might push the cost beyond that of the Sinotec but trust me, that DNR makes a helluva difference if you will use the TV for SD as well.

I have a 26" Logik up in our main bedroom and it's fine for what we need (R2650 from Game). Liiitle bit of backlight bleeding from the sides when the display is black and black are more of a deep grey, but that is common on many low-midrange LCD's, as an LCD panel's natural color is white, not black (plasma black, not white)
