Hi all,

It seems it's that time of year where all my tech things want to give up on life. First my PS3 got stolen a week ago and now my Logitech Z5500 have decided they're done as well :(

Turned them on this morning and the base station just sits on "Detecting" and never seems to get passed that point. Have tried turning them off and on multiple times using the power switch on the Sub and have tried leaving them off for a while but still no luck :( Google also shows that it is something that other people have experienced.

So I thought I'd ask if anyone here as dealt with this and if there's a possibility to salvage them? Can't even remember when I bought them but it's definitely out of warranty now and from what I've read I don't want to consider downgrading to the Z906.

Other than that, any recommendations would could be a worthy successor to these guys? They really have been 1 of my better purchases for my PC. Performed awesomely and they've lasted easily 5+ years.

Thanks in advance
S1ght :)

Contact Logitech and see if they will help you out, they are extremely good when it comes to customer service, even on out of warranty products.

Logitech Z-906

From what I've read they really dropped the ball in terms of quality with all the sets after the Z5500 and Z2300, not to mention I was never a fan of how the Z906 looked. Am quite fond of my nice digital display :)

I've sent their support an email but I'm thinking I'll just give them a call Monday but went and did some tests on the set at a friend's place who also has a pair. Just seems to be the control pod that's busted and those you can find on ebay but it's just a case of making sure it's compatible with the Sub as apparently they released 2 versions of the control pod.

EDIT: So just got off the phone with Logitech support. First off you phone the number specified for South Africa and it connected me to the support in Germany so we had a little bit of trouble with each other's accents >.<

They were willing to swap the control pod out for me but because my pair is an older pair, they don't have any control pods compatible with it. I asked if they could replace the entire set then and apparently they can't cause it was obviously discontinued. So as a consolation they are giving me a 35% off voucher for the Logitech store if I want to purchase a new pair...Not that you can purchase anything off the Logitech site though >.<

So while the solution isn't perfect I'm giving them a thumbs up, I'm a good couple of years outside my warranty and they were still willing to help me :)

Well I just ordered a Control Pod of ebay. Seems to be the only place you can find them :( Never really been a big fan of ebay so I'm hoping I didn't just waste a bit of money but I guess I'll hopefully get it in 2-3 weeks and I'll have to post an update then.

Good luck!! Please do post an update as I have a set of Z5500s and am dreading the day anything goes wrong. As an aside I think I'm going to get a set of Z906s for my home theatre as I don't really know what the other option is in that range (will look at creatives but logitech has done well for me historically...hopefully that's an indicator of the future)

Ah how badly I want Z5500's. I have the X530's and I love them already even thought they're not quite as epic as the big daddy's.

I still have mine, but do not use it that much. My only problem is that mine has started to Fuse the Fuse, have to replace these nearly every time, do not know what causes this as I do not abuse the system, not the power as it did the same at my old place. Also my Sub chassis is starting to worn out, which is very weird, and the speakers have strange little dents in the cones… Sound still good. I will be using it again when I get the time to setup a gaming room and waiting on the PS4 release.

I must say that my less expensive Creative T6200 5.1 set is way more superior with games, only that the volume knob is problematic, at least have a VERIS with remote control.

Thanks :) I have the same problem where I'm not sure what I would replace them with. I've been using them on my PS3 in the TV room for the last year. Then the TV and PS3 got stolen so I moved them back to my PC where I had been using headphones and it's just so much nicer to sit and browse listening to music where you don't have this constant pressure on your head and the bass shaking the desk a lil' :p

So now I'm really hoping this ebay purchase works out and I have to say I'm quite nervous about it since it's an overseas thing for 1 and I've never really liked buying 2nd hand where he could be shipping me a box with a spoon in for all I know, but it seems it's my only option to keep these bad boys alive >.< Estimated delivery is between the 10th and 16th July so I'm just going to have to wait >.<

My room mate has a pair of those which I used for a while, they aren't bad for their price :) But as soon as I put my Z5500 back on my PC, the quality difference is immediatley, and I'm talking at low volume though. They were definitely worth the money imo :)

UPDATE 1:

Just received my control pod from the ebay guy. Will try it when I get home but my first impression is exactly why I hate buying from people on the internet. The unit is scratched and greasy as hell. The stand isn't even screwed on properly :/ I'm really hoping it works and then I'll consider just taking the board out and putting it in my casing.

Update 2 to come when I get home to see if it works.

Seems like you had a better customer service experience than I did a few years back with my Z2300. I also had a problme with the controller. I aksed them if it were possible to get a replacement. They polietly told me that they don't provide service to speaker products out of warranty, obviously this made me mad.

Anyways, I just went on to cut the jack and replace it with another I had lying around. That seemed to do the trick at least. Until recently, one of my speakers blew and now its only the sub and the one speaker that works.

Perhaps I should also look for a replacement speaker on eBay....

UPDATE 2:

Unit works and my speakers live again \o/ Took the control pods apart and swapped out the crappy body for my normal 1 and now it looks good as new again :)
