Hi Guys.

I have an idea for a website I want to launch. It's actually based on a successful American start up, but that only services America for now.
I have already got an awesome .com name ... and now just need to develop the website.

I've been trying to figure out how to use frameworks and OOP, but I'm just going in circles ... so if anyone wants to be a business partner in this venture and help build the site then let me know :P

Regards

Itai

This will not go well: maybe do a search for previous threads in this line.

Not saying it's a bad idea: just there is more involved than a good idea and a nice .com name ...

good luck ...

Yes I know, this isn't the first website I've started ... just it's at a level of development I do not have. I will once I get my BSC IT, but that's only when I finish my articles.

But thanks :P

Etai has launched Digital Addiction, so he does have some experience working with developers.

Edit: Bleh- beat me to it:p

Fair enough: enough said in that case :-)

I received last month alone 16 requests for people asking exactly what you are asking, all have these great "ideas" and it will definitely work I must just develop it

My reply to them as follow

If you are so sure it will work why dont you pay someone to do it ?

Why should I waste my time to help you seeing that I will be risking everything (Ie: My time, My knowledge)

Between us: Your wonderful idea is NOTHING without a developer

Now go and ask yourself where do you fit into this picture as the developer will be doing everything so why does the developer even need you ??

On a side note my one graphics designer working for me received the following from a guy in cape town yesterday

We are looking for the best of the best designers and would hereby like to request that your company participates in our logo design competition

Winning logo will receive R1000 and lots of work to follow

I was like really ???? Wtf this designer has done over 500 logo's and now someone expects him enter a competition

Do you go to pick and pay get all your groceries in the cart and at the till them you want to make them a business partner or that they can enter a competition and pay you ???

Get the cash, get a proper developer do your thing

Accounting boring already?:)

Here is another one as well

The best part no capital required omg

I am looking for a business partner that build and maintain (administrate) a web based concept I would like to persue. It will not take too much of your time.
Preferably looking for someone that does not work full time and is based close to Rondebosch. Best example of this would be a student that just finished studying.

I run two other businesses therefore cannot do this alone.
The website will be based on a model of Gumtree just on a smaller scale. You should have knowledge of CMS, Joomla, Pay-Fast, domains, how to set up user accounts, etc.... I am not too clued up on the terminology but these seem vital.

No capital is neccessary, just your time. We can discuss expenditure on neccessary basics at a later stage.

Basically I would require you to run the website and even take calls on a daily basis, but this should hardly take any of your time.
I am young and pretty relaxed in the working environment (informal) and would prefer someone similar if possible.

I can't reveal too much info on the concept for obvious reasons, if interested don't hesitate to contact me and we can set up an appointment.

Thanks for your time.

I will reply simply below:

Good for you, perhaps if you actually sit with each one of those 16 people, assess their idea, or better yet, help them achieve it, you may end up sitting with a lot of money under your belt ... or you may not ... I like to try everything until I find the one that makes millions.

My reply to them as follow

Money is tight ... especially what dev'

Why should I waste my time to help you seeing that I will be risking everything (Ie: My time, My knowledge)

High Risk = High Reward

No it is still something ... I am a developer, just very entry level, but I will be able to build it, it will just take longer

Now go and ask yourself where do you fit into this picture as the developer will be doing everything so why does the developer even need you ??

I started Digital Addiction and AndroidZA from scratch ... both very successful websites (Digital Addiction closed down after I sold it but was successful before I did, proof that I do have good accumen in business) ... I have tons of experience running websites. The developer is an important bit in the chain, but is not the only bit. Huge companies have engineers and CEO's, they each have their own parts to play.

That doesn't even make sense in the context

I will do it one way or another, I'm offering someone a way in ... they can take it or leave it, I will get it started, it's purely a timing difference. That, and I am meeting with a venture capitalist firm who specialises in small start ups to discuss not just this one, but another idea of mine. But I prefer having partners than VC firms.

I will reply simply below:

..... Good Luck dude think you will need it, no developer worth there salt will go for this and I know a few

Why would a developer do this with you if they can do it on their own ?

All of the above I can do on my own as well while developing so where do you fit in ?

Perhaps you have a good idea but you have to consider a much broader spectrum on development

You can or you have?
A website with almost 30,000 hits per month and another that had R1.8m turnover in its second year.

Well if you have, well done, not many people easily do things like that. I've only ever launched 2 websites, both successful ... but luck of the draw I guess?

Never-the-less ... I agree, no standard developer would go for this, it's too easy to settle in a "guaranteed" life, and for many not worth the risk (and I cannot disagree) ... I am not looking for a standard developer, I'm looking for the ones who are willing to risk something to build a company ... so for all the 500 views this thread will get with no response, the one that replies will be the type of person I'm looking to work with. Funnily enough, that PM came quicker than I thought ;)

And

Pm sent. I have time on my hands. Nothing to lose. I can only work on it after hours and weekends.

What techs do you require?
Edit: I'm not a designer. So if you are looking for a pretty website, look elsewhere.

And

I have done more traffic than that but ... it was not that turnover

Nothing in life is guaranteed and success does not come by working for a boss

You have to risk to gain on that note good luck and hopefully the pm'ed you receive does not steal your idea and go do it on their own

Are you looking for someone full time or one with only a few hours a week, and some extra on the weekend? Are you offering future profit sharing or some form of contract stipulating payment dependent on the venture's success?

Hi Steven. At this stage in the game, it is just someone with hours to spare. It would be future profit share in the form of ownership in the business ... I'm not out to cheat anyone :P
