MAcbook air bootcamp driver download issue

MAcbook air with the new usb software re-install disk.
Apparently this does not have the bootcamp drivers on it, you need to download it using bootcamp assistant.

If I donwload using this, it cannot save to a hard drive or burn the disk. I see on the forums that the solution is to use the software that came witht eh laptop...obviously i cannot. And being a macbook air, i cant use a retail copy (or so I am told).

Any thoughts? I see the bootcamp drivers are available for download, but only version 2. 3 is on pirate bay, but i would like to avoid this if possible

I don't have the MBA (yet) so I don't know how the USB install stick is put together, but I know you can make a USB install from the retail DVD. IIRC you just make a GUID partition table and copy the content of the DVD to it. Taking that one step further, could you copy from the Apple USB stick to a generic, writeable one that's just bigger maybe, boot from that and download the drivers to that?

There seems to be an issue with this that is quite common. It attempts to download, but when you try tell it to save, it says it cannot.
If you try write it to disk, it has just gets stuck in a loop of selecting write to disk. (seems to be a common problem) the solution, is to just use the bootcamp drivers on your disk that came with the laptop. The macbook air however, doesnt come with any disks but the usb recovery stick. As per apple website, this doesnt have the bootcamp drivers, and you need to download them and burn them

I am gonna try a generic SL disk, but from what i hear, it doesnt work on the new MBA. Seems I am stuck in a catch 22, and this is extremely annoying.
I am gonna attempt the bootcamp 3 download and see how that goes.

Otherwise, i will try download again and see if it caches that download somewhere....

Hope you got it downloaded. What with unreliable internet, downloads frequently fail or get corrupted from resuming too many times.
