Makro launches Kindle 3 e-book reader in SA

I ordered mine from Amazon and with shipping and customs it was about +-R1700...and they want R2400! Crazy!
 
I bought a kindle 3g wifi from amazon directly. Paid about 2300 for the kindle and a 60$ cover + delivery + import tax. took 3days to deliver.

Why would anyone buy it from Makro if you can get it a lot cheaper from the source?
 
Isn't that an Old Kindle image?

Still cheaper to order from Amazon. That and if it breaks... they pick it up and drop off a new one within 4 days.

Now that is service!
 
there isnt a model with out all the bells and whistles is there? I doubt I will find myself in a situation where I absolutely had to buy a book on the go, away from my pc.

convenience and makro's exchange/repair guarantee I guess. What if your one breaks after the guarantee is up?

Or more accessories will also be a start. Ive seen some epic deals on amazon but couldn't order it because of shipping restrictions. :(

And it takes less than a week to get to you from the states. I would say Macro fail but people will buy them.
 
I've just checked on Amazon and including shipping etc they're asking R1692. :eek:

Cant find details of this guarantee on their site. Will it cover the kindle? is it worth the extra R700?
 
very expensive from Makro

My Wi-fi model including a $60 cover was delivered to me this morning, ordered on Tuesday night from Amazon, for a total cost of R1869.....
 
Makro may offer it for less though on one of their specials.
 
Makro's doing what we all did, just on a larger scale, and then reselling those Kindles with a profit margin added. It's cool if you want it in a hurry, but if time is not an issue then buying direct is def cheaper. I also only waited three days from Amazon to get it at my door.
 
Quick question for owners of the 3G model. How often do you use this feature? Is it that useful or would you settle for the Wifi model in hindsight?

I've looked at going 3G myself but only guys that travel overseas with their Kindles seem to ever use it. Also not supported in most of dark Africa.

In hindsight, I'll still take the 3G model, it's not that much extra and the convenience it adds is really cool. It's free 3G wherever you go, and the built in web browser is perfect for the quick glance at your FB (mobile site works lekker), news sites, gmail...just about any site that has text on it... I find it quite useful, and the fact that you don't pay for the data - bonus!
 
Take the 3G model. It enables you to buy a book anywhere where there is 3G reception. Nothing as frustrating when you want/need a book and can't get it because there is no wi-fi available. A phone with a wi-fi hotspot feature, or a mobile 3G to wi-fi router, will obviously decrease the this need.
