London - Former ANC Youth League president Julius Malema has defended the racial make-up of the SA Olympic team after suggestions that it was too white.
Malema was asked about the team during an interview with British Sky News on Tuesday.
The Sky News interviewer said: “It did strike me that there weren't many black faces in the group for a black majority country.”
Malema said the team members were chosen because they were qualified.
“We think that we're a non-racial country and all South Africans who have qualified to make Team SA should carry the flag proudly, and we support them,” he said.
“It's not (any) more about the issue of colour.”
Malema said there was still a problem with poor communities not having access to sport. Sport Minister Fikile Mbalula was working to resolve this.
“It's quite a serious challenge, but we're still very proud of our Team SA,” Malema said. - Sapa

No ****ing way!

Unless he is just trying to be nice and win the whites over... one needs an above average IQ for that though.

He's just trying to create a platform to voice his concern within this quote:

He is not caring a blue **** about white SA Olympians.

Malema is a political player. He's not in the youth league anymore. He does not need or want to say the things he said back then. Now it's an attempt to revitalise his image. For those who think he's stupid, his EQ is out of this world.

Wait for the ANC to start welcoming him back, his attitude will change back to his old "tendencies".

If you can't change it, use it for your own good.

The olympic "TEAM" isn't an actual team with set number of spaces. Each individual qualifies for the olympics on their own. No sports body can tell them "no the team is full, fsck off".

If the "TEAM" or rather representatives do not reflect the nations demographics, then it shows that the absent demographic is instead sitting at home eating Chicken Licken rather than training to be the best of the best.

So put that in your political pipe and smoke it.

While your statement makes sense, I don't think it's true as there was the whole contraversy recently with the horse riding and cycling spots wasn't there? Where folks qualified but they were'nt selected? Actually any type of selective process means there are "spots", not just qualifiers.

This doesn't really surprise me seeing as he's looking investors.

Couldn't give a fsck what he has to say. Not sure why the press thinks that anyone does...

Hitler was also of the scale on EQ.

This is just irritating..

Journalists should be telling this loud mouthed little prat that nobody actually gives a toss what he thinks anymore.

Does anyone else have the feeling the journalist wanted to start up some trouble?

Totally, and what a hypocrite.

I bet the same journalist would not ask a French politician about the make up of the French Football Team.
