Here is a pointer:
Never allow Telkom to install Diginet NTU's when applying
for a data circuit.
Always insist on Martis termination equipment.
In recent times, Telkom has centralised their diagnostic support and
they are now clearly lacking the necessary experience and skill to to do
proper loopback testing etc. etc..
At least with Martis... the system is more sophisticated and able
to provide far better diagnostics.
If you want to avoid unnecessary periods of downtime .... simply refuse to
accept the old NTU termination equipment, and go with Martis!

Duh...(Obelix=Telkom employee) that is the point: Don't let Telkom install the old NTU equipment.
(I don't give a sh*t what you call it - The Telkom Marketing guy's sell the solution as Martis - A Tellabs product)

The Rand is now starting to weaken again.... so not in the dwang for much longer :)

Hmm, we had the Martis unit prior to a recent upgrade from 128K to 256K and the only value I noticed were the diagnostics LEDs, although in all honestly generally MTNNS phones me before I even notice that the link is down.

Actually still have the STU in a box somewhere.

I like the old NTUs. You can use them on old analogue copper pairs and get a 64ks digital link as opposed to a 33,600 analogue :D So, dont throw them away!
