Morning everyone. I have a question and I'm hoping some people here can help.

Basically we are a school that likes to send out notices to the parents (events, venue changes etc), as well as the newsletter which goes out once a week. This works usually by us having to send a mail out class by class so as not to run on the wrong side of saix. The problem is this is a bit tedious as it has to be done manually. What I am looking for is either finding a way to send them all at once without upsetting saix, or for some script or setting to set in sendmail which will auto send out the mails on the hour so we stay within limits.

The setup is as follows in case anyone needs to know:
PCs -> Our internal SMTP server -> SAIX SMTP

We may consider getting a hosted SMTP server to use instead of using SAIX, so if any of the hosting companies on here have suggestions please add your input.

My Bad.
Probably DSL with assigned ip that's been previously abused by some scumbag. No that won't work.
:o

There is two issues I see from your description of the problem.

The first being mass mailing and the time required to prepare the mails to send.
Lets begin here; Why not use mail merge on Microsoft Word. If you have not used this feature on Word, try it. You simply create the document in word and send the same document to multiple recipients. All you will need is the list of recipients by name, email address and any other info you would like to include on the personalised mail. The mail merge wizard in word is of great help.

The second problem is the bulk mail that is created and that seems to cause some problems with SAIX. Is you SMTP an Exchange server and are you using DSL to access the internet. If yes then configure SMTP connector to use DNS to route all mail rather than use the SAIX smart host. This works for me.

Let me know if it works.

No, his problem is he cannot send direct because chances are his ip is blacklisted.

2nd problem is saix have a 200 messages (or whatever) per hour restriction.

He needs either someone to relay the mail for him, or find a way to stagger his server to send the messages out in compliance of the 200/hour.

I know Mdaemon and pretty sure Mercury have a feature like that.

Hi wizzard,

There are certain mailing list PHP scripts that make use of a database (such as http://www.phplist.com) and can be uploaded to a web hosting account. They also have a live demo for you to try out.

If the web host offer a webmail client, then you could also use that mailing list facility.

Please keep in mind that some web hosts have a limit per hour of mail sending and this should be consulted with them.

Good luck!

Or speak to your Service Provider ?

Perhaps they can remove the restriction off their smtp for you, or maybe even have a separate relay for customers that need to send out bulk mails.

Thanks for all the replies and suggestions. We took it up with our ISP late yesterday and it turns out they were supposed to be responsible for it anyway, so we are making it their problem now :)
