It is with much delight that I announce that the e-toll customer service outlet in the Benmore Gardens shopping centre has been closed.

Really? Are you sure they simply haven't moved? That's quite an interesting turn of events...

They have completely left the centre.

From the centre's newsletter:

E-Toll has departed the centre and will no longer be available at Benmore. Our thanks go to the team. We will be announcing new and exciting tenants that will be coming to add to the Benmore offering that you have always enjoyed.

That might have been a decision to not renew their lease by centre management. Or, as I hope, it's a financial decision by Sanral...

The only SANRAL etrolling den of thievery that I am aware of, is at Cedar Square, every time I go past there I have to resist the temptation to capture some video for posterity but I don't because I pity the soulless SANRAL employees that haunt the place and having their ashen faces associated on the Internet with SANRAL could affect their future job opportunities.

A day pass will be activated when a vehicle passes through the first gantry and it can then pass through as many gantries on a Gauteng e-road as needed in a 24-hour period.

For a category A1 vehicle (a motorbike), a day pass will cost R30, for a sedan R50, small heavy-motor vehicles R125 and trucks R250.

People outside Gauteng can buy the day pass online and, when they enter the province, go to a Sanral outlet to fetch it. Outlets will be on national roads in Gauteng.

Why must a pass be fetched?
Surely the online purchase against VLN is enough?

Will the outlets be open 24/7/365?
If I live in Cape Town and drive to Pretoria and arrive in Gauteng at 23:00 at night on a public holiday where must I go to pick up the "pass" before I hit the first gantry?

This system is archaic!
 
Does the R50 day-pass also apply to people from Gauteng?

I completely agree that it is insane that you have to collect the pass. Is their system so bad that they are unable to tract which people have a day pass on the day and not bill them?

The unintended consequences may not be that bad. The in-laws may not come and visit due to the admin to sort out a day pass. :)

You're missing the point. The only part the public pay is to be milch cows for the fat cats. It has nothing to do with road maintenance, but only with extracting as much cash as possible as soon as possible and then getting the cash offshore as fast as possible.

Corruption seems to be implemented as a perfect system.

I can't see how they could legally stop a Gauteng resident from buying a day pass. Works out cheaper for me to buy a day pass than it does travelling without an etag. Their pricing is just absurd.

1) Why do road users from other provinces get an effective discounted rate when compared to certain routes some Gauteng road users need to travel?

2) How can their pricing come out to such a rounded number?

They've just sucked the day pass pricing from thin air imo...

A Day Pass may only be purchase 12 times per year for a vehicle.
