The battery in my mid 2013 13" Air has recently (like yesterday) started dropping rather quickly. For example, I've been on less than an hour this morning and it sits at 62%. I haven't installed anything at all, updates or apps wise.

Any hints or tips on what is causing this or do I need to 'reset' something or other?

Reset the SMC?

Ah. Forgot what is was called. I'll do that.

Just realising it might be linked to AirPlay though. I fired up my ATV last night for the first time in a while and maybe it is still looking for it. I've restarted the Air anyway but will reset the SMC if it doesn't improve.

Thanks for the tip.

Also, before I rebooted, the Time Remaining on current usage said 1 hour 31 minutes.

My battery use is relatively infrequent but when I do use it, it gets used pretty hard.

wow , Digicape want to charge me R14,000 to replace my Macbook Pro 2012 battery.

In the UK i see the cost is only 149 pounds through the apple store.

cheaper to fly to the UK

Talking nonsense. They sell the non-retina machine for R16 000.

Mac Wave sells 2012 batteries for R1750.00, so I am sure they will be in line with that.

Create a partition and install OS X there. Use that partition and test battery life. If it improves, then your main installation of OS X has some rogue process chowing the battery. Use disk utility to kill that test partition when you're done.
