so currently i have a xfx 9600gt graphics card (which actually still works pretty well for my basic'ish needs) - i can play most games on med to highish quality...

...now seeing as bf3, mw3 etc is coming out, i'm thinking of upgrading the card, nothing fancy but will something like a gtx550 or hd6670 suite my needs. basically so that i can at least continue to play those games on med to high quality

budget is about 1,5-1,8

Have a look at the Sapphire HD6850 @ ~R1650 (incl VAT, excl shipping).

I would suggest that you post your PC specs here, before purchasing a new graphics card, because your PSU might not be up to scratch...
Please include your CPU model #. # of HDD's and your PSU brand + model.

think i have a coolmaster 550w or 600w PSU will check it in the morning

have 3 hdds: 80gb, 320gb and 500gb and my cpu is a e6550 - the pc will be upgraded at the end of the year after my dec holiday and xmas gifts are paid for

For BF3 6870 or higher unless you want to get a new card in dec? perhaps a 2nd 6850 then.

Better buy it like tomorrow, unless prices have already gone up

I'm in the same boat, dunno how well my ATI 4890 and quad core is gonna handle BF3 :(

as per min requirements i should be ok....although i just read about it and it seems to require vista or win 7

computersonly has a XFX AMD 6850 1GB DDR5 for 1,8

good buy?

[edit] i'm more of a casual gamer - games that take ppl 5-8hrs to finish, last me weeks - so i don't want something that i won't need. my screen is a samsung 23" lcd

Yes. What resolution will you be playing at?

If you can try get the 6850 though.

You should try get a DX11 card to have BF3 really looking beautiful.

or wootware has a Sapphire Radeon HD6850 1GB PCI-E Graphics Card for 1,7

ok cards?

Just buy the cheapest HD6850/HD6870 that you can find within your budget from one of the following online shops:
Wootware/Takealot/Prophecy Shop/Rebeltech/Zaps Online

I don't know why you'd want to pay R1800 for the same model graphics card at ComputersOnly, when you can get it for like R1700 (incl VAT + shipping) from like Rebeltech.
