What are you guys using for Media Centre software? I've been a big fan of MediaPortal, but I'm looking for a change. Anything else out there that's better?

Basically just for movies and tv series. Not going to record anything. Something that has an option for trailers as well would be nice. No idea why nobody has done it for MediaPortal.

The Windows 7 Media Centre works pretty well - much better than the one that came with Vista Ultimate.

Can Windows 7 MCE also update movie and series info from the internet? Posters, descriptions etc.

Yup - install YAMMM, done.

You get actor info, movies with the=at actor, similar movies, showings coming up on TV, a whole bunch of Meta info.

Win7MC with media browser here. It's the shizznizz. :D Media browser can update automatically from the internet, but I use Metabrowser for my metadata instead. I like to pick my own backdrops/posters. And if you want everything working first time round, I recommend going 32bit. I upgraded from 32bit Vista to 64bit Win 7 and getting everything the way I want codec wise is a hassle in 64bit.

Windows 7 with Media Browser for me, just ordered my new chassis today... Thermaltake DH103 :D

XBMC can download content, labels, weather, etc.... and it plays MKV files flawlessly. It also supports a variety of other plug-ins.

How do you guys go about playing mkv files on Win7 MC?

Well, either the new Divx preview, if you want to add it in to native Windows Media Foundation. Or Haali splitter with FFDshow. Or Shark007's codecs pack for Win7. I chose the latter and disabled the whole WMF crap.

Ok, installed Windows 7. Problem though, with XP I had the resolution set to 1366 x 768 over HDMI. I can't get it working again in Windows 7. Closest I get is 1280 x 720, which doesn't properly fit the screen. It's a Geforce 6600 card with a 40" LCD. Any ideas?

new drivers?

On mine I had to unhide 'unsupported' resolutions - I have a 7300GS (that needs replacing).

Latest drivers. When I uncheck the "hide unsupported resolutions", I only get 1080 resolutions, which my tv doesn't support.

Thats really odd - does your LCD have VGA, maybe you can try that?

I recall on the RC version I had to hack my registry to get the supported res.
