AC Ryan Media Player does it for me and is usually around R1299 ex VAT at Esquire on special iirc.
I've had mine for a good few months and really enjoying it.

Yeah, that's the full on one (one step below the PVR) with capacity for 2TB of internal hard drive.
I've got my 3.5" 5400rpm 1TB Samsung in it.

IIRC Esquire has 3 models - the "mini" for R999 or so without internal HDD support, then the one S&B is referring to with internal HDD support, then the more expensive one with PVR support.
Dude, just get the Mede8er. People have reported problems with AC Ryans and slow loading times. The Mede8er is only R300 or so more, has an extra year's warranty, better accessories, better firmware and looks a helluva lot better.
Agreed. I too have a Mede8er, it does everything i want it to and plays basically almost all video and audio file types. Another plus is that it is made in SA, so support is good. Plus, the new V4 Firmware looks great!
How does it compare to the Popcorn Hour, which does play everything and not "almost all".

Very good point..."almost all" is fine untill you get that one dowmload with out sound or caps...then what? Also look at eGreat...I've had one for 2 years...very happy...firmware updates keeping pave with HD movies especially sound thru my Yahama receiver etc.

Popcorn Hour is undoubtedly the best, but I can't afford it right now. Looking at WD TV Live or the cheapest Mede8er.

Agreed. Been discussed ad-nauseum, and Mede8er is certainly the best.

Ok phoned Esquire.The Mede8ter 500M sells for R1750 inc vat- add R110 if you want it delivered.No word as yet on the lighter models but they are available on preorder from the mede8ter.coza website.Next best alternative is the AC Ryan which sells for R1140 inc vat.Only diff is the gaurantee and manufacturer.The mede8ter gives you 2 years compared to the 1 year of Ryan.
