First I thought it was just some Sandisk knockoffs flooding the market then I saw it's basically across the board and with all sizes. Even some fast 1TB cards going for under R1000.

They may be rising again after going down but they're significantly cheaper than a few months ago.

I would not trust a "too good to be true" takealot listing. 3rd party sellers are selling fake/counterfeit storage devices all over their website.

I'm betting this one is fake for example : SanDisk Extreme PRO microSDXC UHS-I Card 2TB
https://www.takealot.com/sandisk-extreme-pro-microsdxc-uhs-i-card-2tb/PLID100295537 you won't find a 2tb card at that price anywhere and yet some rando 3rd party seller has it on takealot for R800.

See some are up and some are down. Like I got a 64gb for R129 last week now it's R159

And you gotta wait 12 - 14 days for it to arrive......

The thing is, the seller probably does not know that they are fake either. They are probably getting it form aliexpress or similar. It's obvious form the price but these sellers are probably not in the know...

It's not actually so obvious. It's most brands at the same time and the really high end V90 stuff is still priced ridiculously. Does not follow the pattern of fake stuff which is usually the opposite and some unknown "brand".

"FAQs
If the price is too good to be true, it probably is."

That's just it. With fakes it's easy to see real pricing vs fake pricing with a clear gap in between. Suddenly there's now a range of pricing. It's more a pattern of a bunch of cheap low demand memory coming available. Reputable brands aren't immune to that and have sold stuff that breaks later or doesn't perform as expected. I'll wait and see how this plays out but I think there's more to it than fake goods.

Not a good sign when the photo doesn't match the description. Not to mention a price that is R2k below retail.

Probably best to avoid the stuff that has a long lead time. Also compare pricing to other places online.
3rd party sellers are ruining the takealot platform. See this post: https://mybroadband.co.za/forum/thr...ectric-boogaloo.1289243/page-68#post-34286079

Thread I made in 2022 (it seems to have gotten worse since then) : https://mybroadband.co.za/forum/threads/takealot-has-a-problem-with-3rd-party-sellers.1211085/

I bought this 64gb one as a spare the other day and I paid R125 for it.

Here is another fake:

You stand more chance of getting a better item on temu

2TB less than 1K
https://www.takealot.com/sandisk-ex...c-uhs-i-card-250mb-s-read-150mb/PLID101160503
https://www.takealot.com/2-0gb-sd-m...ure-digital-card-for-cameras-mp/PLID100940168

1TB less than 500
https://www.takealot.com/sandisk-extreme-pro-microsdxc-uhs-i-card-1tb/PLID100270239

but list the same item at multiple prices
https://www.takealot.com/sandisk-extreme-pro-microsdxc-uhs-i-card-1tb/PLID101160565

No reviews and shipping time of 2-3 weeks.

If it wasn't for the leadtime I would probably do a test buy just to test the drives and get the seller banned.
Most people don't have the technical know-how to verify true disk capacity.

They raised their prices (yesterday it was R288), but they're still too good to be true.

Who's not going to trust a company called SZRWKJ...
