Meta Quest 3 local availability

So I wanna order the Quest 3 for my birthday in June and I saw that Amazon would be the cheapest in Rands, but I'm not sure about ordering it on there especially because it would be my first time and if it didn't arrive it'd be R14 000 down the drain and I don't wanna get in trouble with my dad so I just wanna ask can I order on there and would it actually arrive here in SA?
If you want to be extra safe you can order at wootware: https://www.wootware.co.za/meta-quest-3-128gb-advanced-virtual-reality-headset.html

I ordered mine on amazon UK and it arrived within 2 weeks at the cost of a bit less than R12000

Amazon is reliable and safe, but I can understand your hesitancy. Apparently Amazon will open a local store in this year, which might things easier. Alternatively use a local reseller as the previous post suggested.

So it seems that Meta unfortunately isn't going to be releasing the Quest 3 in SA officially, but there's at least one local retailer that has it for pre-order :

Pricing doesn't look too outrageous but only time will tell whether it remains as-is. Failing that, I suppose one could always order through Amazon and it might even work out cheaper that way.

Yeah,I saw something about that and I knew about wootware but I specifically want the 512GB and on wootware that's about R16 000 so I think I wanna try Amazon, thank you for the suggestion

I checked wootware and since I want the 512GB version I saw it would be more expensive so I started checking other retailers then Amazon showed up and I checked there and saw it would be much cheaper than local retailers here in SA then you mentioned Amazon UK and when I checked there it was more expensive

BTW bought this silicone cover in the interim. Its for the MQ2 but fits ok, might give it a snip to relieve some bunching around perimeter. Otherwise no issues with it.

I had to make a small snip on the top of mine as it kept triggering the sensor which would cause a black screen.
Thought my headset packed up for a minute or two until I figured out the damn silicone was the cause.

If you're primarily going to jam PC games through your headset (recommended), then the 128Gb is totally fine.
I got the 128Gb and my bro the 512Gb - but honestly there's not much to put on there. (I filled it up, tried a lot of games / apps but using Virtual Desktop with PC about 99.9% of the time).

Quest games are mostly kak tbh compared to PC VR. You're limited to cellphone CPU/GPU performance so the games also look mostly shite to the PC version.

I tried a bunch of games on the headset and as a prime example Resident Evil 4 on headset vs PC is night and day difference.
On PC it's epic.
On Quest 3 it's just another zombie shooter.

If you're planning on watching 8k movies on there, then yes - more storage is great.
However, you can also play via external storage or copy 1 movie at a time. (They're about 60gb)

If you don't have a gaming PC then yes, the 512Gb version is the best choice.
Otherwise I wouldn't spend the extra money.

Yeah, I want the 512Gb version because I don't have a PC and I also want as much storage as i can get especially since it's gonna be my first VR headset, I want to be able to have it for a long time.

So not sure if you factored this in, but Quest games are priced in USD, so they cost a bit more than PC VR versions of the same game.

Not sure which versions of RE 4 you're comparing here. The native Quest version is a port of the original RE 4 from 2005 and looks mostly the same or better as that game on any other platform. RE 4 remake (2023) is a completely redone version of it made for modern consoles and PCs, and the only official VR version of it, is for Playstation VR 2. I'm aware that there's an unofficial port for PC VR (I still need to try it out sometime).

Yeah, I know about that. But If you would wanna purchase a game It would obviously charge you using your currency right? I just wanna make sure

No, Meta's Quest store isn't officially supported in South Africa, but it's not geo-blocked or anything. By default, they charge in US Dollar.

Ah, that explains it.

Ja Praydog has really done great work to bring Unreal Engine games to VR.

Yep, games are damn expensive from Meta.
Unlike Steam there's no regional pricing so games are easily double or more than what you'd pay there.
Y'all are scaring me now, but I shall be strong.

I ordered the Quest 2 in 2021 from Amazon.com, arrived without hassle as Amazon deals with import duties etc. (when you check out they state the fees, if less they'll refund).

I'm still waiting on stock for the BOBOVR M3 strap before purchasing the Q3, stock is constantly sold out, though could order from their site directly (10-15 days wait though).

Cost becomes more of a thing once factoring in accessories, +100 EUR to make it decent (the other 30 EUR are from controller straps, night and day difference with Quest 2, being able to let go is a huge QoL improvement:

I'm actually not too fussed about the straps on the Quest 3 - using mine stock standard.
Bought my gf a Bobovr for her Quest 2 as that strap was quite bad.

4 of us with our Quest 3's and none complaining about the strap, only batterylife. (All of us currently using a charging brick for longer sessions)

I'm still waiting for a better quality strap for the Quest 3 with proper batteries (Bobo for Quest3 has subpar batteries), and while Aubika has the legit battery, I'm seeing too many complaints to order one - so I'm still holding out before I order a custom strap.

Download the meta quest app on your phone then you can check the store and get an idea how much the games/apps cost. I recommend waiting for a discount on the game you want to buy, there are also bundled discounts etc.

Ok, thanks.

Anyone with both the Q2 and 3 here who plays flight sims? Is it worth the upgrade? Stopped using the Q2 just because of the blurriness/SDE making the instruments hard to read at times.

I was looking at the Pimax Crystal as an option but that's about R25k+

If you play a flight sim on your 1080p monitor and can make out the instruments text, then a Q3 would be good enough. It has a really big sweet spot, basically the whole screen, and you can see the sde as much as you can see the sde on a 1080p monitor in front of you. The internet says it's around 30% better and that sounds about right to me.
