Microsoft kills Windows 7 beta

Man, I was meant to download that :|

Got the key and everything :P Oh well, guess I need to wait for the official release and bear with Vista for a while longer.

I sit with a copy here...must still install it. I heard very good things about Windows 7 - unlike Vista!

Had it installed for about a hour and then reformatted the partition...

It looks nice but windows xp is still doing everything I want to do fine... But I will most definately go Windows 7 when its released... Just dont feel like fixing MS problems :)

I am also still sitting with the disc and haven't yet installed it. Only realised afterward that I should have downloaded the 64bit addition, but instead DL'd the 32bit ~bangs head on desk~

Any hat.

You do have a reason. Whether it's an acceptable one is another question :)

True, true. I'm seriously itching for an i7 system. :)

So I was thinking; As I'm currently migrating all my various servers to a VM-based Unix setup, it'll need more CPU soon. So I can then sacrifice my Quad-Core CPU (which I had to get to help Vista along) for the VM-server.

Obviously I'llthen need a new system and since one would assume Win-7 was optimized for i7........;)

+1,000,000 to what SlyFly said.

I tried 7 and it's nice and all, but it's going to take alot for me to change from XP.

XP with SP3 is just perfect!

Windows 7 Starter - 3 programs? Lets see... must have an antivirus and a firewall, so that leaves... 1 program?

Although I'm using Win 7 atm and think it's great I still don't see a solid reason why companies would upgrade from XP.

My new laptop (Core 2 duo) came with XP... so I'm a bit reluctant to try anything new right now. Maybe I need a new harddisk (or SSD :) ) and then give it a go.
I've now fully switched to Windows 7 from Vista and had to cancel that order for a new i7 system as I now have no more reason to justify buying new hardware....
OMG, If my company even gave me the tiniest hint that I could get a i7 replacement/upgrade I'd do my utmost to make sure that they were totally convinced that I need one :D

:D

I think the 3 app limit is a bit stupid.

I would assume that if you uses the ones bundled with windows, you can still run 3 programs, but use your own firewall/antivirus, then you'll only be able to run one program.

Expect Registry hackers to trawl the registry trying to bypass this limit.

TBH most people doesn't open more than two applications, but it's not safe to say that (just as BillG said 640k ought to be enough...)

Was just wondering whether spyware/adware will count as extra apps...

...and whether Task Manager will still be able to run after all three application spaces have been used up...

I sure hope your not using a p4 with 512 meg ram cause you should upgrade then.

Starter ISN'T a new version as the article states. You can get a starter edition of vista as well.

Of course no one should really want such a version as the horrors of only 3 simultaneous applications are painful to even imagine.
