Microsoft kills Windows 7 beta

Starter ISN'T a new version as the article states. You can get a starter edition of vista as well.

Of course no one should really want such a version as the horrors of only 3 simultaneous applications are painful to even imagine.

That must be horrible. I am currently running Firefox, avast!, WordWeb, Gmail Notifier, Skype, Realtek HD Audio. That's already way above. I am going to be purchasing the Home Premium version. I am currently running the Beta. It is unbelievable that it is so stable!

I have it installed and so far I am very, very impressed. Most definitely an upgrade from Vista. I prefer it to XP as well.

LOL XP starter edition is just as cr@p as the Vista version..

I was like WTF!!!!!:eek::eek: the first time a customer brought in their Sahara PC loaded with that cr@p on it..

3 apps limits is just plain dumb..

My new laptop (Core 2 duo) came with XP... so I'm a bit reluctant to try anything new right now. Maybe I need a new harddisk (or SSD :) ) and then give it a go.

OMG, If my company even gave me the tiniest hint that I could get a i7 replacement/upgrade I'd do my utmost to make sure that they were totally convinced that I need one :D

I made Panasonic upgrade my Laptop from Vista to XP. Works like a bomb now!
Stick with XP. You don't need Windows Vista or SP2 (Win 7).

I don't think the article was quite clear as to how the application limit would work. Microsoft's research could very well be correct that the average user only actively runs 3 applications at a time, with everything else running as a local system service (and example would be an anti virus package. Even if that is the case, a limit to 3 applications is too low.

I think it's ridiculous...even if most users only use up to 3 apps at a time it still won't cater for people who need more ... why on earth abandon XP for this (downgrading your functionality for prettier graphics)? Just load XP SP3 and some decent anti virus and firewall and you're set to go.

YOU DON"T HAVE TO BUY STARTER EDITION!!!!

They are just offering a low cost, low functionality version as an OPTION for people who want it. Not everyone needs a 5 ton truck. Sometimes you just need a Nissan 1400.

I see what you did there. And no, we not buying your Nissan bakkie :D

I must say that the new Windows 7 is much better than Vista. It still have the look that Vista have and all that was wrong with Vista, have been rectified with this Windows 7.

I have both xp sp3 and win7 installed on my pc and I've found myself doing everything (save for playing games) on win7 bcos of the significant performane increase. The nly reason i'm not playing games is bcos of the 40mb dwnload for my gcard's driver...

Nope I disagree! Windows Vista SP 2 out performs windows 7 by a mile!

Maybe by default the windows 7 system is good. But when it comes to optomization. Vista has been out for a long time now. All the programs and drivers are better optomized for Vista.

Now windows 7 comes out. Now all the drivers need to be created for windows 7. So after service pack 1 is released I will use windows 7 not before that.

I say this because for 1. Games lag like hell in windows 7 where with Visat sp 2 it runs the same settings so smooth. Now this might not be windows 7 and I'm pretty sure its not, its the drivers that is not correctlly optomized to perform at it best.

So i like vista and will use it for a while still!

Are you being serious cavedog?

I run everything via windows RTm at the moment, my games run flawlessly and windows 7 is way faster than vista. I also tested windows 7 at an accounting firm and everything works so i will upgrading all 16 of their pc's when it's released.

The chick i have loaded it on loves it, i mostly did it because they have serious issues with xp and the networking setup, will leave it running for until the release.

I hear people always going on about sp1, so i know when xp was released it had major issues, when vista was released major issues but windows 7 has no major issues that need fixing so i am not sure why it would need a service pack when it is perfection in my opinion, it is far more perfect than vista or xp upon release.

XP's 'major issues' upon release were not as bad by a mile as what Vista's been doing. When people make unqualified remarks like yours everyone thinks that the XP transition to Vista was as bad as Win9x to XP.

You guys should try the final release of 7. I have been running 7 Enterprise (Ultimate VLK edition) in 64bit mode on both my intel core2 at work and athlon x2 at home and it is amazing. There is actually a performance increase in games - something I easily notice since I am only running an onboard Radeon 4200.

7 is awesome :p

Yes I'm serious. Ive used windows 7 on my pc and Vista performs much better on my pc than windows 7

I've installed a nawty copy on a Virtual machine, cracked it - checked it out... not that interested - I'll stay with legal copy of "XP" thanks :)

I'll give it another look when SP1 for 7 comes out.
