Microsoft or Apple?

donovan jackson, your clearly a mac fanboy, and actualy vista is much like xp plus added bling - simple to use.

I run Vista on a Lenovo T60 (IBM) Thinkpad. I swear a 1975 Hitachi mainframe would beat me hands down as far speed is concerned.

Depending on usage, I'd choose a Mac over a PC...

Is this guy using a random text generator to write his stories, or is it really such a slow news day that there is nobody else around to write a decent article?

I have to agree. Interface-wise there isn't much difference except it looks way cooler...

lol what a hack, don't think he knows u can run M$ operating systems on a Mac anyway

a few years back mac's would have been the choice for graphics these days that doesn't count anymore. Depending what needs to be done pc are more widely used these days. Vista is just like when XP came out, full of bugs and nothing much wanted to work with it. I looked at vista a while ago, it looks good i must say but it's mostly eye candy. It way to hungry on recources, on a big pc you will not notice it but not everyone out there has p4 core/duo (or something).

"PC World has released their year in review statistics and 2007 was not kind to Microsoft. IE 6 users are equally likely to move to Firefox as they are to IE7 and no one wants Vista. 'How much of an accomplishment is it for a new version of Windows to get to 14 percent usage in 11 months? The logical benchmark is to compare it to the first eleven months of Windows XP, back in 2001 and 2002. In that period, that operating system went from nothing to 36 percent usage on PCWorld.com--more than 250 percent of the usage that Vista has mustered so far.'"

That Sir, should be enough proof for you, if you can't see it from the opinions of thers on the various forums and in the media that Windows Vista is one big unwanted failure and a downgrade from the now promising looking XP.

14% vs 36% after 11 months of Vista vs 11 months of XP, when XP first came out. Yeees, Vista is just a bit of extra eye-candy but otherwise fine.
Do people who use their computers for productivity want eye candy?
I dunno about you but I'd prefer a genuine 3 series BMW to a Trabant engine with a Ferrari body and most people agree....Vista for the first time
ever (even more so than ME) is seen for what it trully is, an unwanted downgrade.

As one person said on bash.org

The worst part of owning a MAC is admitting to your parents that you're gay

I really like MAC stuff,,, but I really cant stand the 'My poo doesnt stink' attitude of some/most Mac people. Wether its the iPhone, iPod, iMac whatever it is.

The iMac is nice piece of kit, the iPhone is a fusking PDA that plays music! there have been MILLIONS of them before Apple decided to make a phone that doesnt even do 3G networks.

The iPod isnt even a MP3 player.. you need to convert everything using a really cheezy app. (more apps can convert to apple format.. but whats the point)

From the people who hyped the Segway for 4 years as a 'revolution in personal transport'
Apple is a Success story of how marketing can manipulate people. (read - sheeple)

Apple has always looked VERY nice in my opinion. Microsoft can probably do the most wide range of things, but mac is pretty. Good for design.

But unlike South African politics, there really is a ‘third way’. That is, of course, to download a free operating system from the likes of Ubuntu, put some free software on it such as openoffice, and show the corporations a giant single-fingered salute.

Excellent advise if I do say so myself:D.

Interesting news article

I've used Macs since they first came out in 1984 even though IBM compatible computers were entrenched by then. The Macs graphical operating system was so much easier than DOS. Eventually the DOS folks came around with the advent of Windows 95 which made using a computer easier for everyone who chose to stick with DOS. I still prefer Macs and I can also enjoy using Windows since the systems are somewhat similar. I just have to think backwards. As for pushing Macs on others, I don't do that much anymore. I figure if that's what makes you happy more power to you. The ironic thing is some folks I know are switching to Macs without any pressure on my part. It's indeed a strange world.

You're incorrect - but don't let that get in your way. ;)

Apparently XP is better than Vista right now. It took me quite a while to switch over to XP from 2000. I seen and heard more negative things about vista than good. I might use it on a trial basis at work.....

No linux in there somewhere?

Technically no, it is BSD, which is a UNIX like Linux is a UNIX, so by derivation caused by lack of sleep you could call is a Linux.

If you mean no mention of Linux in the thread till now that also crossed my mind :-D

I have a almost month old 15" MBP which is relatively cheap for its spec, with Vista installed, and honestly the only time I boot Windows is when I need to do something on our corporate network, although most of the time I just use RDP or and ICA client. Biggest problem with most Mac's is they run freaking HOT. The MBP's are not good Laptops in that sense.
