My guess then is that the cheapest surface tablet will be between R6K - R7K after all the distributors and channels and whatnots put their markup on it.

The proof is in the drop test. A much more likely real world scenario than needing a tablet to double as a skateboard.

Absolutely, with all those mechanical and moving parts in the thing, I'd fear total loss on the slightest bump.
