Mind the speed ISP

Awful packet loss right now;
Discord calls also constantly dropping.

What’s going on, MTS :(

They call me this afternoon and said that it was as @gcu65 said due to their peering with NAPAfrica and that it was resolved. They are open till 20h30 tonight so you can call the support line.

I did a packet loss test based on your post:

Not sure if good or bad.

Just did some more reading:

So, my earlier statement seems to be coming true, the upgrade in speed is creating havoc on their systems. I will give them till the 30 June to get their ducks in a row.

I'm going to deal with it for a bit, and then move over to Afrihost. Their new prices are just too good!

I was thinking the same, as they give a good router and I am thinking of upgrading my router:

I think MTS knows who I am. They just called (got voicemail as my phone is charging) to talk about my invoice.

Mind the Speed Invoice not looking competitive at the moment:

So you have a 100 Mbps now due to the double up but being billed at the 50 Mbps rate? So in effect that's the new 100 Mbps rate?
This free upgrade is very confusing. So you can’t downgrade as the rate remains during the promotion if you do? What’s stopping you from cancelling and then re-ordering or moving to another provider at the cheaper rate. Then you can downgrade at the lower price? I’m I understanding this correctly. As I saw Afrihost price drop. Presume that new rate is for new vuma customers only? If my interpretation is correct?

If I understand it correctly, if you downgrade you won't be part of the promotion anymore. So if you were to go to 20Mbps, you will pay for 20Mbps and you won't be doubled up to 50Mbps. Afrihost has stated that their price decreases are permanent, and I've only seen one other ISP do this.

EDIT: I see Cool Ideas is also looking at price decreases now.
Yes, we are working on pricing updates. Should be communicated within the next week or so.

If that’s the case most providers will be forced to follow. @TheRoDent , will the new rates be applicable to existing customers or only new customers .

The voice note explain that I am paying for 50 but getting 100mb. So I am still paying the same price. I gues they havent heard about Afrihost.
I'm quite happy to pay R695 for a 50/50..will relook at other providers if MTS don't come to the party in 6 months seeing as promo is on till Jan.. As stated before I'm very happy with their service

I am also happy with their service, but I will give them till the end of next month. If they don't drop the prices permanently and make it possible for me to downgrade to the new 50mbps pricing I will give notice and move to Afrihost. I am not sticking to these prices until January.

@AfriNatic Can you confirm something for me?
If I sign up for your 50/50 package on your new price, will I be upgraded to 100/100 until the end of Jan?

Hi,

No. The new prices already include the promo. If you want 100/100 you need to signup for that package.

These prices are however permanent going forward.
