Missing SAPO Parcels and Letters

I still think there is a specific issue between China and SA.

Package sent to me form UK was listed as posted on 2012/09/28 received in SA on 2012/10/04 sitting in CapeMail on 2012/10/08

Have an HDMI hub stuck in PE Hub from the 26th September already.

At least the strike is over so we should start seeing some movement soon.

The strike did not really affect my two EMS shipments though. Despite the lack of updates in the previous week, both were suddenly delivered to my house last Monday. Seems the database system is up the pole.

Been waiting for two international shipments for a while. Today I read this press release on the post office website:

Delay in mail processing and delivery

A few months ago the South African Post Office embarked on a thorough process of assessing its human capital needs. It is important to note that the needs of the organisation are unique and require a diverse employee base, including the use of both full-time permanent and flexible staff. As part of part this process, the SA Post Office proactively embarked on phasing out the use of labour brokers and initially offering direct temporary contracts to its casual employees in September while finalizing the long-terms strategy for eventual appointments of these casual employees. As a consequence, some staff members have had certain objections to the process, which has resulted in a group of employees embarking on illegal work stoppages.

Tomorrow I'm just going down to the post office and straight asking them if those letters are there.

I must say I love "FASTMAIL". It takes sometimes a full week for FASTMAIL to get to me in Cape Town from Capemail. If that's FASTMAIL, I don't know what's ordinary mail then.

BTW it's ridiculous that our postmen do not deliver when it rains. I know they ride on bicycles but surely the Post Office could use a van and give them a raincoat? Guess that's too expensive....

Received a parcel from China today which the shipper said was sent on 29th April. There was a China Post round stamp on it dated 2nd May. Parcel was tracked at Jhb HUB on 2nd October (exactly 5 months later) and was redirected to Cape Mail on 10th October. Went to Cape Mail today and collected it.

Mr steve_clarke, OP, what have you decided to do about jacking up the SAPO. Anything at all? Do you require our assistance with anything?

At the post office they said the strike should be over soon, "maybe tomorrow"

Note how efficient Japan Post is compared to us. Item posted by EMS, leaves SAME DAY (or in the same 24 hr period) on the plane. In contrast when I go to Canal Walk to send something by EMS, it lingers there for 24 hours (business), then another 24 hours before dispatch from Cape Town overseas.

Strike is still ongoing, illegally. Oh boy I hope my mail gets delivered one day!

This strike is a major problem for me, I am waiting for a number of overseas parcels and I have found in the past that the % of lost parcels skyrockets during strikes :-(

Spoke to my postman today. He said the strike is ending "tomorrow" and they're sorting mail out. Hope so

LOL, I had a SAL parcel delivered to my post office on 17 Oct. No notification by 24 Oct yet. Is one week not enough to drop a notification slip in the mail box?

My EMS delivery was not affected by the strike. Cape Mail sorting, customs and delivery to door all happened the same day.

Had no problems with my parcels coming from the USA using normal USPS and they came in a reasonable time of 2 weeks
