To Setup MMS on the new Iphone os 3.0

dial *123*12#

This will activate mms on your account and send you a sms that says :
"Can't auto setup MMS.
call 173 for help or setup
manually..."

Then go to Settings > General > Network > Cellular Data Network
Enter the following settings:

INTERNET
-------------
APN: internet
username: mtn
password: mtn

MMS
-----
APN: myMTN
username: mtnmms
password: mtnmms
MMSC: http://mms.mtn.co.za/mms/wapenc
MMS Proxy: 196.11.240.241:8080
MMS Max Message Size: 99999
MMS UA Prof URL:

Exit Settings.

Switch off iphone and switch on again.

When your iphone restarts it will have MMS enabled, you
can go to settings > messages to verify that it
is enabled. you can also enable the subject line field, so that you
can add subjects to MMS messages.

To test, open a new message and tap the camera button that now appears at the bottom left of the screen. Take a photo and send to to your self :)

ENJOY :)

Iphone MMS on MTN

I followed these intrsctions, but still no luck.

Is it possible that MTN are blocking mms from iPhones?

Nope I am with MTN, and have used swirly since the beginning of the year, and has never had a problem

Swirly is what we used before OS 3. It is an awesome MMS app, you can actually send 3gp files with the latest version, a thing that you cannot do with the iphone 3g mms app, only on 3gs (but I am pretty sure that is also only software locked and will be hacked pretty soon

Great, thanks. My phone is not jailbroken so I'll keep messing around with the settings.

Nope, works 100% on my non-jailbroken OS 3.0 iPhone 3G, check your settings again and make sure you received that activation SMS from MTN.

Hi, I am a noob. My carrier is MTN. Did all the above but only MTN phones receives my MMS not Vodacom. I can receive from MTN & Vodacom. Any assistance will be appreciated - driving me grazy !

You don't need the username, password or Max message size. all those can be left blank.

Don't know why this is happening, I tested it this evening and from my phone I mms'd to two vodacom phones (not iphones though) with my iphone, and both of them received the mms.

Think you better go and shout at MTN

this is a known problem that we're trying to find a solution to. its only a problem when sending an MMS from an iPhone to a iPhone on vodacom. We think its a problem on vodacom's side.

Thanks - at one stage I thought I was loosing it. Just confirmed - I can send to vodacom phones - just not the iphone, but the stranges thing is I receive from vodacom iphone to my mtn iphone. Phew - so glad you pointed this out - saved my sanity ! :-)

An important note: After changing your settings, restart the iphone just
to make sure the settings are changed successfully.

I just tested again and the username and password are necessary.

mms on iphone

I have loaded the settings. Iphone shows MMS active, but when I send MMS I get the reply: "Your message was not send. Tap "try again..." etyc. I have put the SIMcard back in old Nokia & MMS works, so network is OK & activated. Any ideas?

Double check proxy ip address, the settings on your phone and restart every time change the settings.
