More Free Data from iBurst? (Possibly 500MB)

If you have 7GB and didn't pay for it. I would use it before it disappears on the 1st October.

Jannie, I hope you have a very good plan for gaming updates... Go check out the size of the updates for COD WAW, the last one was just short of 1gig. These game updates are killing bandwidth.

That's precisely what I want to have clarified, will it disappear on the 1st of October?

My understanding is that the extra 'allocation' was in how much you have available in your 'roll-over' bucket. So not your normal contract or month-to-month allocation. But you would have received extra roll-over data.

The systems could well resolve this automatically next month and you'll have your normal roll-over bucket again.

So, if I was in this situation, I'd wipe out all roll-over I had. ;) A MB on your hard-drive is worth much more than a MB in a roll-over bucket somewhere you might not get again. :)

Many iBurst subs have figured this out and are downloading like crazy. This is partly the cause for the slower responses you guys have seen the last two weeks.

but you see, even while us gamers would respect iburst for just this service alone, it would NEVER happen.

they WANT you to download gigs upon gigs for stupid updates....

I just wish there was one ISP that tries to stand out from the crowd instead of just being greedy...

People realize when a company does good for their customers, and people realize when a company just wants their money...after a while you are either gonna have MORE people on your team, or LESS, depending on what the company did for their customers - it just takes time, that's all.

All right. I'm on the 5GB package, thus I had 10GB available to me this month. If I only use 5GB, will my other 5GB be carried over to the next month? I can surely argue that the 5GB I used was the additional data allocated to me and I did not touch my "normal" allocation and therefore insist that it be kept available for the following month. ;)

Normal roll-over will resume from next month.

I'm sure we can 'argue' about definitions and what else not. But it's probably moot. Right now, if you got extra data (over and above what your roll-over should be) and you use it, it's yours.

So "gryp, rape and escape" as any good lawyer will tell you. :)

Fair enough :) If normal roll-over resumes it won't have a problem rolling over a month's allocation (the 5GB I won't be using). I will finish off this extra allocation before month-end then ;)

Thanks Jannie :)

Best of all:

CEO does not try to "rectify" the "accidental" bandwidth allocation.

He actually encourages people to ABUSE it!

Much appreciated!

jannie, quick question here.

what is the reason for the throttling p2p on such a massive scale...isn't the bandwidth the users choice, on how he wants to spend it, as he has paid for it out of his own pocket?

im just asking here because one can never use torrents, and even rapidshare is stuffed - what the hell are us downloaders supposed to do?

+1 for what @keeper says...

EDIT: woohoo, dashboard just updated and works again... finally!

1 gig left

Hi all.

Regarding the P2P.... We cannot open it fully. When this occured in the past our network throughput went over the top and clients could hardly browse and email.

I am sure you do not want to kill the network just to have a torrent come in faster.

Ok, so what are the iBurst limits (speed) currently set to? I know with torrents it is greatly dependant on the seeders, but at times there are 1000's of seeders and I barely manage 3-4kb/s. Other times it can fly at relatively decent speeds with very few seeders. How exactly are you guys controlling it? What are the rules set whithin the system. Time based (like peak periods are worse) or just globally set to a certian speed?

ok but where does the bottleneck lie then, because soon you will be using some of the seacom links (if you are not already), which can handle the bandwidth, and on the client-side the modem can handle 1mb/s - so where is the holdup?

is it in ibursts network itself, is that the bottleneck?

A Farmer has big trucks (seacom), and can deliver tons of apples needed to grocery (iBurst). A customer has a 4x4 and can pack 1 ton of apples at a time.
Why does the grocery limit the customer to 1 bag of apples per hour?

the customer can handle 1 ton, the Farmer can handle it too - so why the holdup? if it can't provide it fast enough then put systems in place that DO allow it!

limiting a customer in how much he can get is the dumbest thing ever. sell as much as you can.

(not only do you get to sell more, but the customer is happier at the end of the day too)

Limiting something to less than 5kb/s is a MAJOR bottleneck IMO

Mebbe the path out the grocer's parking is only a single lane with a traffic cop that controls the flow of trucks, cars and a bicycle (me:D).

I'd have to assume its the iBurst network - the hub was only internal and it got shut down right?

I don't have IBURST and don't intend getting as i have vc and mtn pp sims

i understand your dilemma some what.

BUT F#$CK YOU ARE AN UNGRATEFUL BUNCH GETTING FREE BW AND STILL HAVE THE CEO REPLY TO YOUR GREEDY ASSES IS UNHEARD OF.

Jannie i feel sorry for you you`ve dealt with abuse for so long bud.

You dont have iBurst? You sound sad, do you want iBurst? Sounds like you do, so come back when you do.

What Mr Van Zyl is doing, is interacting with his clients, and getting direct feedback.

Go try that with your VC and MTN CEO's. Oh wait, you can't.

Baldrick is the name of several fictional characters featured in the television series Blackadder. Each one serves as Edmund Blackadder's servant and sidekick. They are all portrayed by Tony Robinson (although in the unaired pilot episode he was played by Philip Fox). Just as Blackadder exists in many incarnations throughout the ages, so does Baldrick; whenever there is a Blackadder there is a Baldrick serving him. In the first series of the show, Baldrick is more intelligent than Blackadder, but this dynamic is reversed in subsequent series, with Baldrick's intelligence decreasing as the show continued. He is the only character other than Edmund Blackadder to appear in every episode of the programme.
