Moto G

Give DHL a call, though. They are known for allowing things to rot at customs until you follow up with them.

Was cleared yesterday. They called me for my id number and checked online, took about an hour to clear.

You get unlucky?

How is this for unlucky though. The shipment arrived in country today according to the tracker. Guess I am getting it on Friday .

Got the phone. Pretty damn good for the price.

The variant of android they are using isn't as customisable as I am used to but it work nice and smooth.

Which variant is that and in what way is it not as customizable. Thanks

I got the 8gb version. It's little stuff like the basic camera app and the 5 fixed home screens. I am used to being able to change camera resolutions and adding or removing home screens. Beyond that I would say the phone is awesome.

To paraphrase the Apple crowd, there are apps for that ;)

I didn't get a call but if I did I was in the bush. Anyway says "Clearance event" on the tracking site, so I guess it should be on its way to me on holiday in KZN soon.

Edit: I called to confirm as per advice above. They did require my id number and email address.

I would love the Nexus 5 but it's a bit pricey to buy cash, so I was considering the Moto G instead. It has the features I need.

To the guys who have the phone:

1) Have you received the Kitkat update as yet? OTA or via a ROM download?

2) Has any one purchased from Orange? How was the service and the delivery time.

Thanks in advance,
Abird

I didn't get the Moto G, but I did buy 2 Nexus 7's from them (not together) and both times were hassle free.

1) no 4.3. I assume we'll get it before end jan or manually soon. Haven't checked the latter.

2) good service. Delivery was pretty quick as well.

Ps there's no charger in the box.

So temped to replace my aging Desire S with one of these! Can anyone who has one comment on the battery life?

I'm also just a bit worried with only 1GB of RAM available - although I guess the Android is vanilla so performance shouldn't take that much of a hit?

And kikat uses even less.

I've used phones with 1gb RAM on both ICS and JB and they run well so that shouldn't be an issue :) though I've never used a Moto G

I've actually got a Nexus 7 2012 and that's got 1GB RAM... I had it on 4.2 for a few hours, 4.3 for about a month and 4.4 for a few weeks... Performance is excellent! Gets better and better with every update as well :)

Sweet! Ordered my Moto G, now I just need to wait for Orange to do their thing and get it to me :D

Looks good! Going to stick with my blackberry till it gives up on me, 3 years strong so far. Any info on battery life?

This was over Christmas (with my spare personal sim), so moderately low use, however no power saving used (data on, wifi on, location services on, some calls, messaging and plenty email).

I've had a number of Android phones (including a few Galaxy models, s2, 2 x s3 and an s4), this has been the first Android phone I'm happy to keep and actually use.
