Hi all,
Was just wondering whether it is possible at all to hook my mtn dongle to ps3 and play games online. As far as ive tried. ive failed. I think problem might be proxy related

Try this

PC

Go to view network connections – Right click on Mtn dial up connection

Click properties – Advanced

There should be three check boxes – make sure they are all ticked & the connection is your Local area connection.

Have the PC connected via Ethernet cable to a router
Have the PS3 connected via Ethernet cable to a router

(If you have a Crossover Ethernet cable then you can do a straight through connection from PC to PS3)

PS3

Network settings

Internet connection settings – Easy setup

Put everything on Auto – Proxy server =No

Save and test connection .

If it picks up the ip address you halfway there .If you get a DNS error try rebooting the router and while it is rebooting try the test again.

Lol, my clan member on here too? small world ey Mikey?:D

Thing is guys, hes not asking about a router, hes asking about a dongle, and yes its possible, i use my E800 data card to connect my laptop to the PS3, just use an ethernet cable to connect the laptop to the PS3 and follow the steps Michaelbro has listed, sorted!:)

OP doesn't mention a PC.

Even if he did, wireless routers that can take USB modems have suddenly become very cheap, see here. All those mentioned will work with MTN modems as well. Having a router just avoids all the hassles of internet connection sharing, and it's wireless.

Hi all,
was about to do what you suggested then got my new acer aspire 5336. i can now use my laptop to game online. the only problem now is that using the mtn dongle i get high pings and get kicked out of games. i have counter strike source 2010. i get ping times of average 300ms, this is bad and i cant seem to play any game as im owned every time. i tried to look for any servers nearer to Uganda and only got one in south africa that is password protected. i cant believe we have no dedicated servers for africans. Is it possible for some one here to setup a dedicated server for africans? my handle on cs:source is kadafiUNDEAD. please add me so i can play with africans, always playing with russians. Thnx
