I just got an SMS that states that from 7 June, I will stay connected with MTN's auto-renew 1MB bundle at 40c. I can't find any other information regarding this online.
By placing everyone on auto-renew bundles, is this a way MTN has found to avoid needing users to opt in to out of bundle spending? The way I understand it, users will need to opt out of auto-bundle spending. There are no instructions on how to stop this auto bundle. Anyone have any thoughts?

R400 a gig. How the hell do we opt out of this? The SMS says “usage limit”. Is MTN's usage limit properly enforced?

So which option do we use?

Got exactly the same. I can't log into MTN to see WTF is happening...

I got the same message. Really don't want to end up paying R1 a meg, how to prevent this from happening?

There's 4 weeks to go before any of us will see how it works.
Yeah, but some people tend to phone them and tune them as soon as something like this happens, I would like to know if any of those had feedback. Your any of us hopefully excludes them.

I got this message too, I'm curious because I NEVER use data - and this enforces exactly why I will never pay for data from these crooks. R1 for 1MB is lunacy, considering how easily one can use 500MB for 20 mins on youtube.

Hello! I am one of those people that tune them :) So, I called them twice today. Spoiler alert: They're skelm morons and there is no way of opting out for now.

Call 1:
The operator scolded me for not reading an SMS that was apparently sent out in March with a code to disable this. I called BS! Then she gave me the code and said I can use it to opt-out. Code: *135*5*10# (WTFFFF?) So I tried it, and all I got was a message saying:

"Right now, your airtime is not used when your Data bundle runs out.

Do you want to opt-in to out-of-bundle rates?

1. Yes
2. Exit"

So I called again.

Call 2:
The operator told me that she doesn't know where the previous operator got that code from, because the opt-out code will only be released "sometime in May" and the operators don't even have the code yet. So we can only opt-out "sometime in May" by entering some mysterious code and that is that. She couldn't do anything else to assist.

Surely this is illegal? Anyone know what we can do from here?

Background on my contract: I get 350MB p/m capped from MTN and rather buy a data bundle through Afrihost. Once my Afrihost data runs out, I use the 350MB. I have never enabled out-of-bundle rates EVER.

damm skelems, found a way to make money from all of us that just buy bundles, as and when we need,

well somebody has to pay for all the generator fuel used during all the load shedding.

True, as long as I get my birthday bundles, and usage limit is 0 I couldn't care less about Oob. Im done with school so........

What more do you want to hear? Your call1 already told you that "Right now, your airtime is not used when your Data bundle runs out".
The option is to opt in to out-of-bundle rates by replying with yes?

You can get to the same settings with your MyMTN app and MTN Menu.
