MTN Black Friday Discussions

I'm rather fortunate I didn't flatten my data bundles on New Years eve like I planned, thought well I have a whole lot left over may as well smash it or lose it. Thought as with any normal/sane network operators the new bundles would be loaded on the 1st...

Mtn always gives the bundles in the middle of the month. It's been like that since I first moved from Vodacom to MTN in 2010.

It is rather weird how they do it, but it works out great for me since I usually finish my cell c data around the 14-16th then once they are done take my sim out of the router and insert the MTN one. Now I don't run out of data before month end anymore

So my next allocation is tomorrow and I have 49GB left which will fall away at midnight. I guess they will "win some" with me most months considering I am on wifi 99% of each day.

We all get ours around the 15th and you on the 5th, how does that work, thought we had just clarified Mtn by default loads bundles on the 15th or thereabouts?

My 2 sims receive their allocation on the 6th of the month. Debit order date is the 1st of the month.

MTN seems to do things completely differently to the other networks - first time I have had a taste of their network in contract form.

Your clarification is flawed: Screenshot_2017-01-05-21-31-29-211_com.mtn1app.jpg Screenshot_2017-01-05-21-31-44-900_com.mtn1app.jpg

So it looks like the normal contract bundles are loaded on the first but the 50gb promo data and 10k minutes not?

Everything, for my lines, is loaded on the 6th of the month. 200 minutes and sms's, 10k Mtn minutes, 500mb data bundle and 50gb data bundle. They will all be loaded at midnight tonight for my lines. I don't know why, but that is how it is for me.

You got anyone you data sharing that 500mb with? It would be a shame to let it go to waste.

Switch off WiFi completely and save battery. I am never on WiFi these days. Im at the point of rationing my remaining data so I don't finish it before the 15th . The 50gigs was just to lure everyone. I think majority of people will only use 2 to 5 gigs. Even at that usage it's still a win since 5 gig contracts are more than double that price anyways

This is exactly what I do, although at home I don't have great MTN signal so I use wifi. I managed to use 20GB these holidays at least for personal use and personal hotspot.

As closure to this matter..

Sorry, it is reserved for my wife for the month's that she manages to deplete her Afrihost APN data on her second sim...

I find that surfing on wifi uses less battery than using the network data. This is exasperated by the fact that my house is near the edge of LTE coverage so my device keeps switching to H+ which is painful compared to my 20mb ADSL line. What is handy is using wifi hotspot and using the phone to upload big stuff to cloud storage though which I intend doing more of.

How can I check when my bundles are loaded each month?

I get between 10 - 15 Mbps at my house with MTN LTE. I'm on a 4Mbps line so it makes a big difference. Hope I get the Dual Call working.

In many spots near me, I pick up between 50Mbps and 70Mbps. Which is sad that I don't live at those spots but hey, at least I'm closer to experiencing 100Mbps right? :D

I get solid 30Mbps at home on 6s. Bombed sim into B315 with external poynting antenna and BOOM!! 50-60Mbps... Very good performance and @ R3 per gig!!

Any idea which phones are still available on this 50gb deal? Is it at specific stores or all?

Download the myMTN app - click the into the bundles and there will be a renewal date. Or just hit *141# every day until they load

This was a one day only thing x3days. No longer available for signup
