MTN Black Friday Discussions

I still think MTN is just fattening the pig for slaughter. Expect them to reduce the 50GB to say 20. Network congestion due to a lack of spectrum will be the reason given.

They can't do that. Telkom reduced their uncapped LTE to 300GB because uncapped is undefined.

MTN has stated 50GB x 24 months. No way to get out of that.

At least. But that still leaves the pesky mid contract price raise as an option right?

Everyone is losing their minds about MTN doing some funny crap. Let's just take each day as it comes. MTN is like any other business, trying to make a profit.

After their Nigerian incident and price increases, they did lose a lot to Cell C and Telkom. They probably trying to get back up. Let's just wait and see what happens.

It's just the overwhelming (at least to a scrub like me) "too good to be true" nature of the deal that has me wondering what devious plan MTN has in store. These major networks rarely offer such deals.

It's a market share drive. Over the last 4yrs, MTN lost big subscriber numbers as a direct result of not spending enough on network upgrades (there are very good financial results and spend articles by Hilton Tarrant on Moneyweb about this). In the last year, they have poured billions into their network to catch up and these 50GB promo's are the first step in getting their subscriber numbers climbing again.

It's also a hedge by them. Like many many others, my sim and my dad's will hardly ever eat 10GB of the 50 in a month. For R149pm we went for it to replace the Afrihost GB's we used to have. With wifi at home and work, I don't get the opportunity to chow all 50GB. Once things settle down, I am willing to bet that only a minority will eat all 50GB in a month while the majority will forfeit many GB's at the end of most or all months.

The 10 000 MTN minutes are even more applicable to the above.

A) thanks for the detailed reply

B) why no "crazy deal" on prepaid you think?

C) breakage will definitely be major, lucky them.

D) still don't trust them.

Edit: Concerning B), they actually did have a special last year literary called crazy. 10GB for R10. The data lasted you a week and you couldn't load multiple bundles. The offer was only for a large but select base though, not everybody got it.

What is the approximate waiting time for being vetted? Applied for a new contract yesterday late afternoon and have never been an mtn customer.

How long's a piece of string?my vetting took 11 days

Applied for mine for a first time yesterday at a store. Received a sms last night stating that my application is conditionally approved. Went into the shop this morning and received my package.

I know someone applied last time through their business, can you list the documentation required for a business application?

cant seem to find any info on the website.

I applied with my ID, proof of address and bank statement. It got approved within a day.

Still waiting for my dual call sim to go activate, has been a week.

I applied on Black Friday and got approved on the Sunday and activated my sim on Monday.

You guys are all lucky. Applied 28th November 2016, sim got activated same day, the phone delivery.. supposedly this week Wednesday.

Went to the MTN store to query Dual Call issue. It's active on the system and not on the network. They logged a query. Phoned 808 for feedback and they say wait 3 - 5 days for feedback.

Anyone else's dual call activated yet?

Whatever you do, do not activate marketing, schiiiiiit they spam the faq out of you, even after you block marketing again they don't stop, it's like opening pandoras box, 10-15 marketing sms per day, ouch :(

Has anyone managed to sort out their missing Zando vouchers?
