MTN Black Friday Discussions

Don’t remember this being an option otherwise we wouldn’t have taken the 60+60 for R299 @I.am.Sam

The Black Friday renewals were "personalized". A colleague and I went in to renew at the same time but got offered different deals. I got the 60+60 deal for R299 as well.

The folks at the MTN store I go to said they still do not know if we will get a new "personalized" deal.

We were able to bypass this personalisation in 2018 and choose whatever deal we wanted.

I took the deal out in January iiirc when they offered to people that didn't renew on black Friday.

This is correct. I upgraded to 60gb + 60gb on BF18, my wife upgraded in January 2019 to a much better deal that has 90GB, 650 mins and 100 sms's per month.

I'll be waiting until January to see what's on offer.

Was she on month to month until January or had she cancelled completely?
 
I'm on the 60GB + 60GB for R299 deal. When I phoned MTN to cancel my contract they said that I need to phone in on 23 November because that is the day the contract ends.

I just want to find out from you guys , must I really wait for the 23rd November to phone them?

I don't want to be charged for an extra month for nothing because I want to get a month to month deal.
It's MTN's usual story, trying to give you the runaroud.
You need to give them one month's notice (at least). So email their customer care and CC the Retentions department that you're giving your notice. When they try hassle you closer to the time, you have the written proof of notice given.
 
Slightly off topic but some stores have such a cheek, they literally blocked my number on one of the consultant's contact numbers for the store.

I tried it today with my main number and it was off and immediately with another number and it was ringing and then again with my main number and it was off.

No, she was still in her final month of the contract period. Her original contract was taken out in Jan / Feb 2017 (they had 2 Mega Deal offers at that time for those that missed the BF2016 deal of 50gb, 10 000 mins & 200 Sms's).

Thanks. So this wouldn’t have really applied to those of us who expired in November.

Yes I literally just called and they said I must call again on the 29th of November (when my ends) I was like since when does this apply, where is it in the agreement that I must call on the day to cancel. Then she said no she's not sure. The 29th is a Sunday and she says yes correct so I said are you open Sunday.. nope.. maybe call on the Monday.

Yeah good luck I emailed CS last month 22/09, got a response 24hrs saying its handed over to retentions. Then radio silence for 2 weeks, followed up told to escalate to management, nada. Hence I called.

I'm on the same contract. Mine was taken in Feb 2019 with the MTN Birthday special that only ran for that weekend. It was a sim only special. Other good things about the deal is that the anytime data is shareable using DataShare and you also get loads of points. :D

So my contract is up for renewal and I'm waiting patiently to see what will be made available.
