When you can see the trouble coming, and are powerless to prevent it... basically, I did all I could think of to cancel my MTN contract at the end of my 24 months, yet somehow am still ending up paying for a 25th month. I doubt that my story is unique, but nevertheless, it's still annoying that customer service can be so variable and pointless.

Don't worry mate. Same thing happened to me. I even called 808 on the final day of my contract and told them to cancel it and they said they can only do it once I'm out of contract.

So not only did they take the extra subscription from me but it also means I paid for a phone that was already paid off.

I'm surprised no one has taken this up with the ASA because they are blatantly advertising falsely and forcing people to pay a subscription and then forfeit everything they have paid for , for something that shouldn't happen. It's a money making scheme.

Luckily I was with Investec at the time so I sent them the evidence that I sent them the email and also recorded my phone call. Since I did everything correctly, Investec gave my money back and took it up with MTN! I had the last laugh after all!
