This should have gotten a little better lately?

MTNDD

Its mostly better, just seems to be a problem at peak times. Was almost totally dead last night. I had the same problem on Virgin and Vodacom too though, nothing was working, don't know if it could've been some sort of local radio interference or just coincidence? SMS's weren't even going through first time. Everything's fine now though.

Good day,

If you guys are still having a problem please could you provide the following info ASAP

We’re going to need a little more information on this . Things like what area he is in, what technology he is using (3g/GPRS/EDGE), and if he switches to a different technology do his speeds increase? Does the problem occur at ALL times during the day or at random times? Does it happen every night?

Thanks,

MTNDD

Once agian I have no international bandwith, but very good local.
What seems to be the problem?

These are my speed at 4/5 signal HSDPA:

Download: 7,016 bps
Upload: 2,384 bps
QOS: 9%
RTT: 1030 ms

Hmm.. I'm picking this problem up as well .. for the first time..
Since about 5:00 this afternoon ... international is going very very sloooowly..
But local (such as this site) is going great..

I used www.speedtest.net to check my speeds...

Local server:
Down: 470 kbps
Up: 57 kbps
Ping: 315

International (London):
Down: 31 kbps
Up: 5 kbps
Ping: 1248
Yea.. the international isn't looking to great ... :( tests took an age to complete..

I'm with you people on this one

I am sure glad I am not the only one experiencing sllooowww connections with MTN. I have tried both my E220 and Globe Surfer and I am really struggling to connect to both local and international sites, although I must add that local is not too bad.

If it wsn't for iBurst's constant random disconnecting I would have reconsidered the change to MTN.

I tried the internetfrog test but the page does not even load completely, so I cannot test the speed there.

I have tried various combinations of MTU and RWIN settings in an attempt to tweak the TCPIP settings for the adapters but nothing seems to work. I have three laptops here and all are showing same symptoms.

Will try a Vodacom SIM in the E220 tonight, let's see what happens.

Having said all of this I am so impressed my MTNDD's commitment to his customers that I am willing to stick it out for another while to give him a chance to look into the matter. It all sounds to me that the network might be a little overloaded with all the new contracts being signed up, and having left MTN network hardware and lines a little underrated for now.

I am in the Boksburg area (Everleigh) and connect via HDSPA on full signal on both the E220 and Globe Surfer.

Looking forward to some positive reply on this one.

Vodacom / MTN Data rate comparison

I have an active Vodacom prepaid SIM and would like to compare data transfer rates using the E220 between MTN and Vodacom.

If I try to connect (the E220 does recognise the card and picks up a UMTS signal) it tells me that the remote computer does not respond.

Can someone point me in the right direction here please, do I need to activate a service on the SIM or is there something I am missing?

Improved speed.

DD,

You are absolutely correct, it is miles better. Here are some test results from internetfrog.

Download: 655,136 bps
Upload: 41,312 bps
QOS: 71%
RTT: 356 ms
MaxPause: 491 ms

The repeatability of the results are good (won´t bore you people with stats, I am an engineer) so perhaps a good sign of MTN movement in the right direction. Let´s hope it stays that way...

Please read my post later on tweaking, I did actually manage to improve browsing slightly with tweaking the TCPIP settings. Suppose every little bit helps...;)

Mine is giving the problem again... very slow international.. :(
Although tonight doesn't seem quite so bad as yesterday was..

On speedtest.net international (London) I get:
Down: 65 kbps
Ping: 716

I didn't get the upload speed as it was taking to long so I just cancelled it..
